Free Throw Shooting and Defensive Lapses

Postby PonyTime » Thu Dec 01, 2016 10:14 am

If we make 75% of our free throws, we win that game last night. At least that is something that can perhaps be corrected.

If Froling can do anything as a frosh - he should at least be able to hit a few FT attempts. It's not like he was tired (Ben Moore and Foster may have been). He only played 13 min.

Everyone is talking about the offensive woes - but my primary concern is that the last two teams we have played have had someone easily dart down the lane for layups against us at critical times during the game - when a stop could have meant everything. There are some defensive issues that need to be fixed.

Our free pitch shooting has been generally substandard ever since LB got here - which is just baffling and totally inexcusable IMO.

Sterling, Nic, KF, B Moore and Shake were our top FT shooters last year. Two of them are gone and the other three are below what they did last year.

the .286 clip from the FT line for Froling is ugly. The .729 clip from his sister is more like what we need!

The team lost by 9 and shot 22 free throws even at 80% they still would have lost. How many teams in the country shot over 80%?

The last 6 points that they scored were free throws as a result of 3 intentional fouls at the end of the game.

Had we made 75% of our FT, we would have been leading the game or tied with 34 sec to go.

So you really do not know. Anyway the stat line says 80%. And we should have played well enough to where we would not have to shoot 80% to win. We need players like that Hutchinson kid. Maybe we can get some top 100'kids in the upcoming class. And we really can't afford to miss on anyone imo.

We missed a lot of front ends of 1 and 1 chances. That would show as one miss but a potential loss of 2 points.

Exactly! The free pitch issues totally compound on the 1 and 1s....

I just don't get it.

I know there are bigger problems but hitting a good percentage of our free pitches will definitely lessen some of the other issues to some degree.

Maybe she can give him some lessons.

Seriously, for a big (in size) three-point shooter his free pitch percentage is just embarrassing so far...

Before our last game in Moody I saw Frohling hit 13 of 15 3 pointers in practice so I know he can shoot. What his problem is I don't know.

I'm a scratch golfer on the practice range. Not close on the course.

Exactly. Game is still too big for him right now, all mental. Need Shake, Sterling, Ben, and Semi to be leaders! Need Jank to tweak the offense and let it run, the problem is that we don't have a spark plug lead pg to dictate that pace. Still can't believe we lost to USC and Boise. Ugh.
