Thoughts and head-to-head in AAC play

After seeing all teams from the AAC play at least one game I believe the conference title is up for grabs. No team appears to be significantly better out of SMU, Cincy, Houston, Temple, UConn and UCF. And yes I include UCF because Fall might be the scariest player in college bball. No one has an answer for a skilled 7' 6" center, and that's what UCF has.

If we can steal another road game from one of the big boys (UConn, Cincy, Temple or UH) and we protect Moody, we have a good shot at the conference. But as most, I just don't know how our limited roster will hold up as the season rolls on.

I looked up our head-to-head records against all schools in AAC play. Kinda interesting:

UCF 5-0
ECU 4-0
Tulane 3-0
Rutgers 2-0
Memphis 6-1
USF 5-1
Tulsa 3-1
UConn 5-2
UH 5-2
Temple 4-2
Cincy 2-4
Louisville 0-2

4 losses will win the conference this year. We need to protect home court and win 2 games at Temple, Cincy, Houston, UCF, and UConn. The Memphis road win was a big game in conference play.

If we don't sweep UCONN this year, shame on us.
Still not sure what to make of Temple. That game with Cincy yesterday was ugly.

I don't think Cinci is going to lose more that one game, here at Moody. They are really deep and if they force you to play there game I don't see anyone beating them.

They will have a couple of games on the road like the Temple game where they don't shoot well and the other team gets hot and they will lose.

Looking at conference history, you guys might be right - 3 losses will probably win conference this year. Which means running the table at home and winning 3 of the tough road games.

I am planning a trip to the Dallas area and will want to see the Cincy game on Feb 12 and Tulane on Feb 15. Start the offers on ticket prices for me.

If Cincy was going to lose 4 games-Temple on the road was probably one of them.

We have pretty much owned The American other than Cincinnati. We just never seem to match up well with their physicality.

I wouldn't expect this year's team to do much better but we will see. That game in Moody last January was one of the best SMU moments I can remember.

I think The American comes down to SMU and Cincinnati. I don't buy any of the other teams at this point - and I hope everybody realizes how huge that road win to start conference was cuz the top 5 or 6 teams are all pretty equal.

Watching both SMU V Memphis and UC v Temple, I'm convinced - given our win ( and the way we won - toughness and play hard) that we can beat anybody - home or away - in our conference.

UC is a good team, balanced, senior leadership, and well coached. But we too have those qualities. If we can stay healthy and play well in the big games then I think we can win the American.

Cinci's main advantage over us is that they can go 8-9 deep.

We kinda got screwed not having a home rematch with Temple last year. I hope that doesnt happen with UCF this year. Houston, Cincy and SMU all opend with signficant road wns. I see these three as top three.
