HOUSTON (SMU) — Alicia Froling scored her 1,000th career point as part of a 20-point, 13-rebound performance to lead the SMU women's basketball team to a 66-45 victory at Houston Saturday afternoon in Hofheinz Pavilion.

The Mustangs snapped their four game losing streak and improved to 11-8 overall and 2-4 in the American Athletic Conference, while the Cougars dropped to 8-11 overall (1-5 AAC). McKenzie Adams continued her hot streak, finishing with 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting after a career-high 32 points at Cincinnati.

With a one-point lead at halftime, 28-27, SMU embarked on a 12-2 run to begin the third quarter increasing the lead to 11, 40-29. SMU's defense anchored the run as the Mustangs held the Cougars to just 10 points in the third period, recording three steals and a block. The Mustangs outscored Houston 22-10 in the third quarter.

SMU converted Houston's 13 turnovers into 13 points in the second half, and outscored the Cougars 18-6 on points in the paint. In the first period, Froling nailed two free throws and with the second earned her 1,000th career point at SMU.

Froling became the first player to score 1,000 points at SMU since Keena Mays (2012-14). The double-double is her 13th of the season and the 32nd of her career. The junior needs just three more double-doubles to break the SMU single-season record (15).

SMU had nine players in the scoring column, with Kiara Perry scoring eight points, and Stephanie Collins finishing with seven points. The Mustangs finished with a season-high 12 steals, four by Perry, and had five blocks.

The Mustangs host No. 23/22 USF Wednesday at Moody Coliseum at 7 p.m. before traveling to Tulsa Saturday at 7 p.m. on ESPN3.
