Bolton Leads Mustangs To Comeback Victory Over Memphis

Jan. 31, 2017

DALLAS (SMU)— Morgan Bolton scored a career high 15 points, including nine in the fourth quarter, to lead the SMU women's basketball team to a comeback victory against Memphis, 53-44, in Moody Coliseum Tuesday night. The senior finished 5-for-6 from behind the arc to give SMU a sixth straight regular-season win against the Tigers.

With 1:39 remaining in the game and SMU leading by three, 47-44, Bolton nailed her fifth three-pointer of the night to extend the Mustangs' lead to six. SMU forced back-to-back turnovers down the stretch, and converted on 3-of-4 free throws in the last 15 seconds to secure the nine-point win.

Memphis led by five at halftime, 23-18, and stretched the lead to nine, 35-26, with 4:07 left in the third quarter. SMU then went on a 9-2 run, with four different players scoring, to cut the lead to two, 37-35, going into the last 10 minutes.

SMU outscored the Tigers 18-7 in the final quarter, forcing eight turnovers that led to five points. McKenzie Adams had three steals, allowing the Mustangs to run the floor ahead of the defensive pressure by the Tigers. The junior finished with 12 points, a career-high four steals and four assists.

Alicia Froling scored seven points in the fourth quarter, finishing with 17 points on 8-for-9 from the field, and had nine rebounds. Stephanie Collins added six points and three blocks.

SMU shot 46.2 percent from behind the arc (6-of-13), the second highest three-point field goal percentage of the season, and finished 7-for-10 from the free-throw line.

The Mustangs take on UCF in Moody Coliseum Saturday at 2 p.m. on the American Digital Network.
