Ojeleye Named To CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 Team

GREENWOOD, Ind. (COSIDA/SMU) – SMU's Semi Ojeleye was named to the 2016-17 CoSIDA Academic All-District™ 7 Men's Basketball Team. The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

The junior from Ottawa, Kan., holds a 3.65 GPA in psychology, while ranking among the top in the American Athletic Conference in points (17.7, 3rd AAC), rebounds (6.7, 15th AAC), field goal percentage (47.9%, 13th AAC) and three point percentage (41.0%, 5th AAC). Ojeleye has scored 10 or more points in 23 games, including the last 16 straight, with 20 or more points in eight contests. He has lead the Mustangs in scoring 12 times and in rebounds seven times this season. Ojeleye was named the American Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Nov. 14, and has been named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll five times.

SMU (20-4, 10-1 American Athletic Conference) is No. 25 in the Associated Press Top 25. The Mustangs rank among the national leaders with a rebound margin of +11.0 (2nd AAC, 3rd NCAA), a field goal defense of .388 (4th AAC, 12th NCAA) and an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.49 (2nd AAC, 11th NCAA). SMU has won 16 of the last 17 games after a 76-53 win at Tulsa on Saturday. The Mustangs have held the last 17 opponents to 66 points or less and has a season scoring defense of 58.6 (1st AAC, 3rd NCAA).

The Mustangs play at Temple tonight at 9 p.m. ET/8 CT. The game can be seen on ESPN2 or heard on SMU's flagship station, KAAM 770 AM, along with TuneIn Radio.

Good for Semi. He is a great guy! All you could ever ask for in a student-athlete.

He has a bright future in basketball and beyond.

We got an absolute gem when he transferred here. I sure hope he comes back for his senior year.
