Anybody remember losing to Southern and listening to a Southern fan chant "uh oh you did it, now you gonna get it" ?

There have been a lot of lows, but for me it was the 29 point game under Doh. That game made me lose hope.

Perkins Gym. Also the scene of many raucous pep rallies for football.

To this day I still get nauseous every time I see a SC Upstate score on the ticker - and I still have no clue where it is

That loss to Kansas and Chamberlain in the Regionals still hurts) as I was at SMU during the Krebs era. But I also remember the non-basketball events there such as Bob Hope, The Kingston Trio and Louis Armstrong. I'm so old I went to games in the old Natatorium where we played before Moody was built in 1956. I believe it seated about 2,000.

Check, check, check, check, check, and check. Thanks for the memories.

Should have made it clear I was thinking about memories from SMU years only, 1955 - 60.

I grew up in University Park and was in Cub Scout Pack 37 based at HP Methodist Church. One winter the Pack, or maybe it was just my Den (one of the ladies who worked with us was the wife of an SMU faculty member) had a chance to go swimming at the Natatorium during the winter. Neat huh, going swimming in Dallas in the cold season without an invite to the Dallas Athletic Club or something like?

Not so. We went on a day when the heating for the pool was turned down or off. Coldest experience I've ever had in a swimming pool and my earliest memory of the Natatorium.

Go Mustangs!

To see the changes in Basketball reminds me to be thankful we have donors such as Mr. Miller and others. Many thanks.

Wow!!! - wonder what Canen's thoughts are from Old and New. I do not remember it being that "pathetic" in my Dement days with Sasser.

When Doh recruited Canen he was using the slogan "we want SMU to become the Duke of Dallas". Keep competing for AAC Championships and make deep runs in the NCAA year after year and Canen can look back and say he was one of the founders

Thursday would be a good time to bust out a new MOODY MAGIC t-shirt. It has been pretty magic, I'd say. :)

Doh was such an oddity. He actually recruited some good players to SMU who had real athleticism. . .and then put them in the Princeton offense. It was so ugly.

And yes, the Jackson State loss at Ellis Field House was horrible. There have been so many horrible moments in the recent history of SMU hoops that it's hard to pick out one that stands alone. But that was so, so bad.

Doherty's biggest problem was he couldn't make up his mind on what he wanted to do stylistically, in game, etc. He changed his offense too many times and substituted in games way too much. If he had been a little more patient he might have had more success. In the end it worked out for us because had Doherty succeeded we never would have landed Larry Brown and would probably be an NIT type team right now.

Doh did recruit some athletic players. Canen, Nick Russel (who transferred), Manuel...
But my God they played scared and intimidated. Doh would stomp the floor to get their attention and practically move each of them around with pointing and screaming. If a mistake was made the guy was pulled.
Horrible to watch guys play scared and tight. Thus the 29 point games and historic losses.

I bet Russell, Cannen, and Manuel thought they had died and gone to heaven when LB showed up, then new Moody, then sell out crowds.

I was living out of state for the Doh years and missed them. There would be one game (perhaps two) a year that would be on National TV ( usually vs. Memphis) back then and I remember tuning in to that one game and thinking that I had seen better execution at High School games.

Early 80s SMU vs Texas at Moody - it was rocking back then during Mustang Mania campaign...

1991 action #3 Arkansas at SMU Moody - notice the Dallas Hall logo...

SMU led a great Arky team by 8 at the half. A lot of Arky fans in the building though.

Tim Mason, Gerald Lewis and others on the court - the genesis of Shumate's 1993 NCAA Tourney team.

Who was calling this game - sounds like NBC game of the week...
