Rick Carlisle there for scouting purposes? Would love to see Sterling in a Mavs jersey

Sterling is definitely the type of player Carlisle likes, see Dorian Finney Smith. Buford type player, too.

As previously mentioned, Carlisle did comment that "this SMU team looks like an NBA team" and specifically mentioned Semi having an NBA body

In a one-sided game like that was yesterday, the TV guys were just looking for someone to interview and I thought Carlisle was good. Also loved when they talked to Larry and mentioned he still had 2 children attending SMU. He mentioned his son was going to continue with graduate school at SMU and commented that his kids have a really nice expense account these days...then went on to say he did not appreciate the benefit he had while employed at SMU (free tuition). He raved about the job Jank has done with the team and talked about how important it was for him to have Jank as the coach in waiting as coming from the NBA, he had to learn a lot about the college game
