AUSTIN, Texas (SMU/CoSIDA) – SMU junior Semi Ojeleye was named to the 2016-17 CoSIDA Academic All-America second team for NCAA Division I men's basketball on Thursday. Ojeleye has a 3.65 GPA in psychology while averaging 18.2 points and 6.7 rebounds for the No. 14/19 Mustangs (25-4, 15-1 American Athletic Conference).

The Ottawa, Kansas, native ranks near the top of the American Athletic Conference in points (18.2, 3rd AAC), rebounds (6.7, 16th AAC), field goal percentage (46.5, 14th AAC) and 3-point percentage (41.1, 3rd AAC). Ojeleye has scored 10 or more points in 28 of 29 games, including the last 21. He has 20 or more points in 10 contests this season. He has led the Mustangs in scoring 15 times and in rebounds seven times this season. Ojeleye has been The American Player of the Week twice along with earning AAC Weekly Honor Roll five times.

SMU has won 11 straight and 21 of their last 22 games. The Mustangs are 16-0 at home the season and have won 20 straight at Moody Coliseum, which is tied for fourth nationally in active home win streaks. The Mustangs have a scoring defense of 59.0 (1st AAC, 3rd NCAA), rebound margin of +10.5 (1st AAC, 2nd NCAA), a field goal defense of .388 (3rd AAC, 8th NCAA), an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.5 (2nd AAC, 11th NCAA) and a scoring margin of 14.0 (2nd AAC, 11th NCAA).

Ojeleye is the third Academic All-American in SMU men's basketball history. He joins Pete Lodwick (1976-77) and Eric Castro (2005-06).
