What if...the Big East had stayed together in 2013?

What a basketball conference we could have been in...there were seven non-football members of the old Big East, what if we'd had a 9-team football conference (with Navy FB only), left Tulane/Tulsa/ECU out, and sacrificed the not-too-important AAC champ game in football? Imagine this basketball conference:

SMU
UConn
Cincinnati
Houston
UCF
USF
Memphis
Temple
Villanova
Georgetown
St. John's
Providence
Marquette
Seton Hall
DePaul

Damn.

Add Tulsa as a full member and ECU and Air Force as FB only to get to 16 and 12 and that would've been cool.

What really pisses me off about the Big East is that the media gives them so much respect and gives the AAC none. Granted the bottom of our league is a huge anchor at the moment but I'd love to see our top 6 play their top 6 head-to-head:

SMU vs. Nova
Cincy vs. Butler
UH vs. Creighton
UCF vs. Seton Hall
Memphis vs. Providence
UConn vs. Marquette

I wish Aresco would make this happen.

Hard to extrapolate from single game match ups, but it will be VERY interesting to see how strong the BE really is come tourney time. I am not sure Butler vs Providence really tells you much.

I'd absolutely love to see those matchups, but - in all fairness - the lack of an ESPN deal has really damaged media exposure for the Big East. It's a very common complaint among Big East Fans.

The AAC probably goes O-fer 6 in those games. Winning 3 would be a great outcome.

True.

Cincinnati would definitely have a shot and I'd love to see us take on Villanova. The other four games probably wouldn't even be enjoyable.

I don't know about that. We definitely hang with Villanova.

Also, having the conference tournament every year at MSG would have been awesome
