Just now on ESPN, they had the head of Data Analytics on. One of their metrics takes into account numerous factors including game results, margin of victory, pre season rankings, BPI, Ken Pom, etc...They said SMU has a 50/50 chance to make sweet 16 while 6 seed Maryland has about a 17% chance. Maryland very over seeded according to the analytics. U Cincy has a 26% chance to make sweet 16.

If we get that far, from an analytics perspective, SMU-Duke and SMU-Nova are very, very interesting matchups that could break either way.

Agreed. Underseeding a teams impacts not just them but also other teams in their bracket. Dayton is a 7 seed but is a 6 point underdog to 10 seed Wichita State. I imagine both teams are not happy with Wichita State's seed.
