Something that needs to change

OK - Mrydel said this awhile back - but it is obviously true that at least the AAC teams had been slotted prior to the outcome of our championship game. They basically said - they aren't that different so lets call them both a 6 seed and call it a day.
The AAC basically gives them no choice but to do that with our late championship. So why can't we get our championship moved up a day so that our champion gets the advantage of their win, instead of moving both teams in that game down a seed or two.
This seems like a simple fix - and many if not most conferences have their games on Saturday.
Rick - we need to make this happen.

its obviously a TV deal-for visibility its actually a great slot since its just about the only game on TV. I'm sure ESPN would be willing to change the time for the game for less cash and a [deleted] time slot

i don't think it is worth the money if one of our conference teams (us in this case) end up with a worse seed due to a late Sunday game. The other conferences are right to finish theirs on Saturday.

as if anyone gave two shi.ts about the AAC champ game. Most ppl at that point were in selection sunday mode

With Wichita St joining and if UConn, Memphis and Temple can get back to their old self, our league is as good as any outside of the ACC.

I actually did get a lot of texts during that game from family that normally doesn't care about SMU, but was tuning in "early" for Selection Sunday and really enjoyed the game.

That's a pretty big "if". Hard to say if the lights will suddenly come on at UConn, Memphis is a mess. Would love at least one more "premier" team in Wichita St as soon as possible. Sure they help our resume, but we need that tooth-and-nail competition to grow the program.

From the interviews with selection committee members after the bracket announcement it was fairly clear that the committee did not really look at conference championships with much consideration. It hurt some teams, but over all did not affect most of the teams in the tournament.

It would be fantastic to have the Shocks next year. I don't see Memphis improving if Lawson leaves and if Gray leaves Houston they step back too. UCF can be a top four team again though. That's six and possibly eight in-conference top 50 games. I'd be really happy with 10-12 total, including OOC.
That's about minimum in the P5's.
