ACU's Moody Coliseum??

Postby LA_Mustang » Wed Jul 19, 2017 9:16 pm

I had no clue their arena was named Moody Coliseum. Is it named after our Moody family?

SMU actually played in the other Moody Coliseum a few years ago when Matt Doherty was coach as part of his 20 wins or bust-dancing in the CIT schedule

My times have sure changed. We wouldn't be caught dead playing a road game at ACU now

Actually we didn't even play the biggest Abilene school. We played D3 McMurry not ACU.

That team played McMurry at their Kimbrell Arena in Abilene. Mustangs won 70-67. http://smumustangs.com/news/2010/12/18/Men_s_Basketball_Captures_Road_Win_At_McMurry.aspx

Only game vs ACU listed in the media guide is a 97-72 SMU win at our Moody Coliseum in the 53-54 season.

*No, I didn't remember this offhand. Looked it up simply due to interest as my cousin lives out there & I think I would've remembered a game like that.

So SMU's Moody Coliseum was opened in 1956 and known as SMU Coliseum. In 1965 it was renamed Moody Coliseum. ACU's Moody Coliseum was opened in 1968. I'm surprised they would name two different venues the exact same name.

I can assure you when I give large volumes of money to two different schools for buildings, I will not ask that one be LA_Mustang Coliseum to differentiate.

Why not M. Rydel Coliseum and Mr. Ydel Coliseum?
