Hart has maintained that momentum with a more delicate touch. I am thankful to Gregg for stepping in at a difficult time but don't think he knew what he was doing. Copeland was incompetent. While we are not where we want to be in football, basketball, or conference affiliation we are at least trending in the right direction.

Wasn't there one AD sandwiched in between Hitch and Gregg? Receding hairline with glasses. Can't remember his name.

I believe that Hank Haney, Schellas Hyndman, Alan Kirkup, Bobby Collins, Dave Bliss, and others hired in the 80s hold some of the highest winning percentages of any head coaches in SMU history in their sports.

The Olympic sports of Swimming and Track were at their peaks in the 80s. Soccer was on the rise and success continued into the 90s due to the coaches hired in the 80s. Tennis and Golf were extremely strong (Richie Renneberg anyone?).

Unless we were paying all athletes in all sports (perhaps we were?), I would say that the athletic department - even outside of football and basketball- was in FAR better shape back then and the coaching hires were FAR better.

Was that Hitch? Not sure - I was not around the programs then. Am sure that someone on here knows though.

Bob Hitch was a bumbling moron-who engineered a -11 game win drop in the football team's record. If you want too give credit to anybody in that era it would be all Russ Potts/Brad Thomas

Back when the Sears Cup rankings mattered, wasn’t SMU a Top 5 program?

I recall we were one of the few schools to ever win the Indoor and Outdoor Track Championships in the same year.

Didnt Bob send an illegal payment to a player(s) using SMU stationary?

I believe that was Henry Lee Parker - the recruiting coordinator - who put his initials on the envelope and was busted on Dale's show - but I could be wrong.

The stationary was an envelop and if he would not have looked shocked and bumbled... Simply look at Dale and said " Yes that is my envelop and my initials, I sent them insurance paperwork"
So, whats next Dale.

All the people who opted out of season tickets next year are looking like very smart investors.
