No, he is attributing UCONN's declining attendance to the American conference. Many UCONN basketball fans blame the American for their poor attendance just like SMU football fans blame the American for our poor attendance. The fact is that if UCONN were winning and a top 25 team they would still have great attendance. When SMU manages to win big, we will solve our attendance problems in football. Teams need to win enough for fans to want to support their product and not base attendance solely on the opponent. However, any team that schedules cupcakes will always have trouble filling the seats for those throwaway games.

Calhoun's right: we're not a natural and traditional rival for UCONN.

I still don't know how Ollie is coaching there. He's driving that program into the ditch.

UCONN, Cincinnati, Memphis and Temple were supposed to be the flagship programs of the American. 3/4 have not been doing a great job since it began.

The conference is suffering because we don't have enough quality wins out of conference. UCONN isn't good because they can't make a good or cohesive basketball team. Their recruiting is suffering because they are still going after the top recruits, and those recruits likely don't believe UCONN will help them get to the NBA. If the flagship programs were strong, then the rest of the conference would be amazing. They would have been better off if Ollie went straight to the NBA after the championship.

Simple fact of the the matter is that they built too darn many parking garages in Hartford and hired a worthless coach. What else is Calhoun gonna say? He pushed for Ollie.

Apparently doesn't recognize SMU as the Flag-ship school of AAC Basketball

Agreed. Makes way more sense to pick on the half of the conference that isn't carrying their weight (and is also not a natural rival).
