Ineffective shot fakes?

Postby malonish » Wed Feb 28, 2018 10:00 pm

Maybe I'm seeing an obvious thing here, but does anyone get the feeling those 3 point pump fakes aren't doing anything? Semi could fake it, stab, feint, etc. and get the guy to bite on it but this year I don't see it working from anyone. Even today it cause Akoy to travel. Should he be threatening with a three pointer anyway?

Chagois should let a few fly on a catch and shoot. If he did that a few times and made them he would get more bites on the fake

It's almost become a routing move for plenty of players...not just our guys and yes, ineffective all too often

I also saw a couple pump fakes where the open pass should have been sent... idk maybe I'm arm chairing it a bit.

When Bobby Knight was commentating he repeatedly said you always shot fake. I got tired of hearing him say if. I do not know how important it is but apparently he thinks it is important.

What? And rob humanity of one of the greatest moments in sports history?

He may be a kook (putting it mildly?), but I love Bobby Knight.

Yes. There were several times Chargois and Akoy both would shot fake and do nothing with it when they could have swung the ball to get someone an open look or create a poor rotation in the D. The ball stops wayyyy to much in our O.

Shots fakes are good, but when your not a threat for the shot they are bad. Just swing the ball. You have to shot fake with a purpose. Chargois earlier in the year was very effective with his, because he was hitting 3s so guys would close out hard. That isn’t the case anymore. An effective shot fake will get you into the lane for a shot or help create a better shot, but when you aren’t a threat it kills ball movement and just stops the ball. Akoy shot faking is laughable.

There is a lot wrong with our O right now.

No practice = no fluid O.

But yes, shot fake - dribble -dribble certainly slows things down. Jank had some very good comments post game about not being able to deal with a tight defense because they can't practice.
