Moody Magic...look at that student section. It could get crazy loud there.

Roll Call. Who was at that game?, I'm guessing CP and Myrdel. Oh, and me.

I'm there, and even recognize some old Frat bros in the background.

fond memories of Phillips and how packed and rowdy Moody would get "back in the day"...and we weren't even a really good team in his years. I think it was the next year we were co-champs with Texas and lost the playoff game down in Waco. Can only imagine how prolific a scorer Phillips would have been with a 3 point line. Guy had tremendous range but I was most impressed by what he could do in among the trees. He was a great player who didn't necessarily look the part.

I was there with my son and Moody was Mad even in those days. The roar was
deafening.

By the way, Gene won several games with last minute shots like this one. I remember
the Arkansas game where he hit a corner shot with 1 second left to win the game. And there
were others.

He was always genuinely humble and a true gentleman.

I seem to recall we won the playoff game in Waco on a last second lay up (Begert?) I have seen the video floating around somewhere.

I was in hs. Me and my TCU fan buddy went. Think we paid $1 to sit in the "end zone".

as a kid the big thrill was to sneak down stairs when the aisle monitors left with about 5-6 minutes left and watch the end of the game on the floor-I was probably down there somewhere

Ha, we probably bumped into one another many times.

There was one Saturday televised game (around 1971) when they interviewed an SMU player post-game. He had his arm around a cute little boy during the interview. That was me.

Bob Begert played in the 60's. I'm talking about the '72 championship team that lost to Texas (think their star was a guy named Robinson...at least he killed us that night). Pretty sure that was the year after Phillips graduated

SMU lost the playoff game to Texas in overtime 89-91 in Waco back in 1972. We were still considered to be co-champions, though.

I loved Bob Begert-some of the great early teams I watched as a kid but every time I see that play on our pre-game highlites-I say WOW SMU sure could use a few more historical highlight buzzer beaters in Big Games to end the highlights

Bob Begert still comes to a lot of SMU games and is a big fan. He was on some great
teams in the 60's, currently lives in the Park Cities, and had a son or sons that played
at Highland Park H S.
