Aside from Eddie Sutton at San Francisco, has that ever been done before?

I have no idea but I do think there are a couple of coaches who are available. Just sort of thinking 'outside of the box'.

I would rather we make a push for an Oats or Musselman in March/April than just "settle" for someone like Matta now. Guys like him will still be there in the Spring as well.

Landing Matta would not be settling. If he is healthy he would be one of the dream candidates. The question is whether or not he is healthy. If he is then get him!

This. He checks all of the boxes:

-Winning records and NCAA Tournament appearances at mid major private schools (Butler, Xavier)
-Success at a bigger program (2 Final Fours at Ohio St.) and left due to a down year/health issues
-A known name coach who can recruit the Midwest, where SMU has found all of its best players over the past few years
Sterling Brown, Ben Moore - Illinois
Nic Moore - Indiana
Jimmy Whitt - Missouri
Semi Ojeleye - Kansas

He was honored by Ohio State recently and this article says his health is better and he is considering his next move in coaching.

He would be a home run hire for SMU.

plus he is available. however, not sure he would consider us- big step down from B1G. of course here would be a lot less pressure and a better environment.

Better environment in what context?

Seeing all the celebrities at the Houston Cougars basketball game is so depressing because we had that just 1.5 years ago. I’m happy for them but ver jealous!

The sad thing is Houston will do what it takes to sustain it.

I wouldn’t say a lot less pressure to win. SMU is not East Carolina yet. Make no mistake if he were hired he would be coming here to win so soon as possible and recruit well.

As Billie Jean King says, pressure is a privilege. If there were no pressure at SMU Jankovich would remain. There better be pressure on our coaches. We all want SMU to be perennial entrants in the NCAA tournament.

If you want to remember the good times just watch a Houston game at the Fertitta Center. Everything we used to be.
