Women's basketball drops AAC opener at Cincinnati

SMU Drops Conference Opener To Cincinnati

CINCINNATI (SMU) – The Mustangs fell on the road to Cincinnati, 69-57, in the American Conference opening game on Sunday from Fifth Third Arena.

BriShonne Tollie had a career day in the game, scoring 12 points, one off her career high. It was Tollie's second game in double figures during her freshman campaign. Tollie added three rebounds and an assist.

SMU found themselves in an early hole after being outscored by nine by Cincinnati in the first quarter.

The Bearcats did a bulk of their damage near the end of the first half going on a 15-1 to push the lead to 21 at the intermission. In the third, the Mustangs pulled off a 10-2 run and kept the Bearcats off the board for half a quarter to pull closer to the Bearcats. It was an 18-point game heading into the game's final period.

SMU continued to close the gap, ending the game on a Johnasia Cash bucket that put the final deficit at 12 points.

Amber Bacon contributed 6 of the Mustang's 10 assist. Bacon also added 11 points with five coming from the line and a pair of steals.

Alicia Froling grabbed 12 boards in the game and added 1 block. Froling now sits one block shy of tying the program record for career blocks.

Next up, the Mustangs begin a three-game home stand facing Houston at Moody Coliseum with a Wednesday tip of 7 p.m.

I watched some of this since it was on ESPN2, but ended up turning it off since it was so frustrating. We looked pretty bad in the part I saw.

Nice to see we were able to keep it from getting out of hand!
