Just throwing this out there. I think we need a thread for the upcoming Tourney. Tulsa is beatable and the winner gets to face a Cincinnati team that we have played close twice. I thought we played our most complete game yesterday and I hope that the lads can do themselves justice this week.

There are a plethora of threads out there where y'all can complain about Jank. My suggestion is this thread gives some love to the kids. They haven't quit and neither should we.

And from Cronin they are having tryouts for the basketball team today trying to get some football players going by the tourney.

I thought you were joking - but just looked it up....

http://www.newsrecord.org/sports/cronin-we-ll-have-tryouts-tomorrow/article_73c85890-4366-11e9-b261-8fc1a940ec03.html

Following the University of Cincinnati's men's basketball 85-69 loss to the University of Houston Sunday afternoon, UC head coach Mick Cronin said his team will have a tryout tomorrow to find out who will be going to the upcoming American Athletic Conference tournament in Memphis this coming week.

He began by mentioning Luke Fickell, the head football coach at UC.

"I may call Coach Fickell," Cronin said. "We'll see. I don't know [when] his guys start spring ball. We'll have tryouts tomorrow at 3 o'clock. I'm not being funny. 3 o'clock tomorrow, we'll have tryouts to see who goes to Memphis."

Cronin provided further reasoning for the idea.

"See the beauty of college is you keep your scholarship," Cronin said. "But if you're going to get on the plane and represent the team that I coach, you're going to block out and then you're going to go after the ball. That's not really rocket science."

UC was out-rebounded 42-28 in Sunday's loss.

When asked if he was serious about the tryouts, Cronin confirmed.

"Yeah," Cronin said. "Oh yeah. Of course."

Cronin does have prior experience coaching football players, most notably current NFL free agent Connor Barwin. Due to injuries to the basketball team, Barwin played for Cronin while at UC from 2005-07. He averaged 1.5 points and 2.5 rebounds as a freshman in 2005-06.

The UC football team began spring practice Saturday morning. They finished 11-2 in 2018 and won the Military Bowl.

That Cincy team would do well to beat us 3 times. If we can just get through Tulsa.

Cincy did quit in that Houston game so if we do advance to play them, we can expect a different level of intensity for sure

It was an interesting game to be at...I don't think I have ever seen a hyped up home crowd deflate so quickly. When uc went up by 6 the place was nuts but then Houston went on their run and the place just died. I bet half the crowd was out of there with 5 minutes left in the game, about the time Cronin benches Cumberland and uc gave up.

Let’s be realistic.

We all know the excuses....all of them.

Even playing the 6 or 7 beat-up guys we have i think its possible we beat Tulsa. I’m hoping we do.
But coming back in 24 hours to play a Fresh Cincy team with Mick on the warpath?

I'll watch, but I really don't think we play with much intensity. Just a hunch.

Short bench excuse is real at tourney time when you have to play consecutive days. Would be nice to have 8 quality guys, though. Still hope we can beat Tulsa on a neutral floor, but no way I would expect these guys to play Cincy as close as they did the 1st two meetings.

There are three steps to beating cinci...whether we can do it we meet them is another story. Crash the boards, limit turnovers and bug the hell out of Cumberland.

I'm ready for tonight. Not ready (unlike most) to let the season end.

Potential upset brewing in Memphis.

Connecticut leads South Florida 39-26 at the half.
