Hopefully our new deal with ESPN might help develop an exciting challenge for The American - although preferably not for a few years so we don't get drilled.

Pac-12 would never agree to that. What's in it for them?

That's the problem for the AAC. The other P5 conferences look down on it and it looks down on the other 25+ conferences. Could argue the Big East is comparable, except they already have a deal with a P5 conference.

Any league that doesn’t have a challenge in theory should be interested. Should help RPI for all involved.

The Mad Scientist has a great idea. SMU will challenge the entire Big South Conference on its own across the entire OOC schedule. Hey! That’s killing two birds with one stone.

Pac-12 or Big East are deal. AAC should have done a challenge with the Atlantic 10. Mountain West got on that. WCC could be good. At the very least, there are games with Gonzaga and St. Mary's.

We thankfully wouldn't have to worry about playing Gonzaga or St. Mary's for quite a while!

That would be a cool challenge. But don't most AAC schools look down on the WCC? Challenges are for those at the same level as you, not below you.

Yeah - which exactly is why The American will never have one with a P5 or the Big East.

Well we're sort of involved in a conference challenge...

@JonRothstein

Sources: SEC teams not involved in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge will play home-and-home series' starting in 19-20 against select teams from the American Conference. The goal of the alliance between the leagues is create more Quad 1 and 2 opportunities.

Granted, in our current state, I'm not sure we would be one of those select teams that would qualify as a Quad 1 or 2 game.

Still that sounds like a good opportunity for The American.

Hopefully in a few years we might have a chance to be involved.

So Cincy, Temple, UCF and Houston will get games with the SEC next year?
