ATHENS, Ga. — The Georgia Bulldogs will host SMU at Stegeman Coliseum this December as the first game of home-and-home series with the Mustangs, head coach Tom Crean announced on Wednesday.

Georgia and SMU will meet in Athens this season on Friday, Dec. 20. The following year, the Bulldogs will venture to Dallas to return the contest on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2020.

"We're excited about the matchup with SMU," Crean said. "This not only adds a quality opponent to our home schedule for this season, it also gives us a chance to play in Dallas next season, where the University of Georgia has an extremely large and loyal alumni base."

The series will be the first meetings between UGA and SMU in men's basketball. Georgia is 30-19 all-time against teams currently competing with the Mustangs in the American Athletic Conference.

SMU has compiled a 71-38 record in three seasons under current head coach Tim Jankovich, including a program-record 30 victories in 2016-17. The Mustangs won the American Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles in 2017.

Georgia is hardly ever good but Crean pulled in a top 10 class this year

I assume this assures us of not having a spot in the AAC/SEC challenge match ups.

Georgia has been TERRIBLE pretty consistently in basketball. They finished near the bottom of the SEC again, last season.
Will be interesting to see how quickly Crean can make something of them.

A recipe for disaster for Jank. UNLV and Georgia on the road and Vandy anywhere would seem to be winnable games. Same for Georgetown at home. While I would not expect to be 4-0, I would think 0-4 or 1-3 would not bode well for the Emperor of Jankistan. I love it.

You want your team to lose? That’s messed up

Georgia went 11-21 last year, but had a few decent wins over teams like Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt and Texas. Crean can coach and is recruiting well, so it's logical to think they're going to get better -- maybe quickly.

Our "Name" OOC opponents of which I am aware and their 2018-19 RPI:

Georgetown 100
UNLV 176
Georgia 188
Vandy 227

The Good News -- at least these are schools fans have heard of

SMU. We only schedule "marquee" games.

Really, really hoping this is not it....if so, we are eliminated from the NIT, let alone the tourney
