SMU men's basketball head coach Tim Jankovich, guard C.J. White and forward Everett Ray met the media after the Mustangs rolled Northwestern State, 77-51.

DALLAS (AP) -- Isiaha Mike had 16 points to lead five SMU players in double figures as the Mustangs won their eighth consecutive game to open the season, romping past Northwestern State 77-51 on Tuesday night.

Mike also had six rebounds, three steals and a block. CJ White added 15 points for the Mustangs. Everett Ray chipped in 14 and Emmanuel Bandoumel and Feron Hunt added 10 apiece. Kendric Davis chipped in nine points while dishing out eight assists.

SMU sprinted to a 35-17 lead at the break and won the second half 42-34.

Chudier Bile had nine points for the Demons (2-5).

SMU faces Georgetown at home on Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 8:30 p.m. CT and the game will be televised on ESPNU.

SMU NOTES
SMU Starting Five: Tyson Jolly, Kendric Davis, Isiaha Mike, Feron Hunt, Everett Ray SMU (2-0)

With the win, SMU men's basketball becomes the third SMU athletic program to start its season with an 8-0 record this fall.

SMU football started 8-0 and finished the regular season 10-2.

SMU men's soccer started 9-0-0 and finished the regular season 14-1-1. The soccer team plays No. 1 Virginia in the NCAA Elite Eight on Friday night in Charlottesville.

SMU and Ohio State are the only schools in the country with an undefeated basketball team and a 10-win football team.

SMU is 8-0 for the first time since 2015-16.

OFFENSIVE NOTES
For the first time this season, five Mustangs scored 10+ points. It's the third straight game with four 10+ scorers.

Scored 70+ points for the 7th time in 8 games, by shooting 42.6 percent.

DEFENSIVE NOTES
Held NWST to 51 points, tied for the lowest scoring output for a Mustang opponent this season (Abilene Christian).

For the second time in three games the Mustangs started strong defensively, holding NWST to a 1-of-10 start from the field after holding Hartford to a 0-of-11 start on Nov. 27.

SMU's 23 rebounds in the first half are the second most of the year, trailing 28 1st half-boards at Evansville.

Tied the season-high with 47 rebounds, matching the total vs. Evansville. Had six players with 5+ rebounds for the first time this year.

Set a new season-high with 10 steals; scored 16 points off turnovers.

SMU INDIVIDUAL NOTES
#1 Feron Hunt, So.
Scored 10 points (5-11); it's his sixth 10+ point game this season.

#3 Kendric Davis, So.
Finished with 9 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists; third straight 8+ assist game.

#5 Emmanuel Bandoumel, So.
Hit double-digits in the point's column with 10, a new career-high. Was 7-of-9 from the FT line.

#13 CJ White, So.
Set a new career-high with 11 points in the first half. Finished with 15 points on the night.

#15 Isiaha Mike, Jr.
Led all scorers with 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting; Mike has scored 10+ in every game this season and is averaging 15.9 ppg this year.

Added 6 rebounds in the win; seventh time this year with 5+ rebounds.

#24 Everett Ray, So.
Scored a career-high 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting. Tied for team lead with 7 rebounds.

COACH TIM JANKOVICH NOTES
Head Coach Tim Jankovich:
SMU is now 45-10 in regular-season non-conference games under Jankovich, and are 37-3 at Moody in those games.

Jankovich improves to 236-159 as a head coach, and 79-38 at SMU.

SMU is 68-10 under Jankovich when leading at halftime, and 8-0 this season.

Glad to hear Jank was concerned/disappointed with last night's performance and I like what he had to say. I had the same thought watching that 1st half, i.e., our guys came out playing highlight/hero basketball and got away from the LB philosophy of moving/sharing the ball and giving up good looks to get great looks offensively. D was good at times but as Jank says, guys are still learning to play together and communication was not good at times.

I do like what I see from this team and it appears they are getting better as the season goes on, just as you would hope. Bring on Georgetown...and I hope Moody has more energy Saturday night!
