SMU Comeback Falls Short At UTA

ARLINGTON, Texas (SMU) — The Mustangs nearly erased a 17-point deficit in a 51-46 road loss to UT Arlington on Sunday at the College Park Center.

SMU (5-5) had another strong day on the glass, outrebounding the Mavs 46-29. The 21 offensive rebounds aided the Mustangs as they attempted to cut into the UTA edge in the second half. SMU was led in scoring by freshman Reagan Bradley for the second-straight game. Bradley finished with 12 points, six rebounds and four assists.

UTA (6-5) got off to a strong start on its home floor, leading 14-4 after one period. The Mavericks kept the Mustangs scoreless for the final 6:03 of the period.

With the Mustangs trailing by 17, JaQuia Whte helped the Mustangs cut into the lead. White hit three shots on consecutive trips up the floor. After a Reagan Bradley and-1, SMU had a 9-1 run that put the deficit in single digits. SMU trailed by 14 at the half.

SMU closed the third on a 12-4 run to make it a nine-point game. A couple of quick SMU buckets in the fourth forced UTA to call a timeout with the lead down to five. The lead continued to dwindle all the way to three, to complete an 18-4 Mustang run over 8:53 of game time.

The game stayed within five points for the remainder of contest as UTA was able to take the game with a few timely plays.

The SMU defense limited UTA to just 4 offensive rebounds in the game. JaQuia White had a season-high with six boards. Johnasia Cash was limited with foul troubles but still managed to bring in seven boards in just 14 minutes of gametime.

SMU returns to its home floor on Sunday, Dec. 29 against UC Irvine. The game is set for a 2 p.m. tip.
