Your 2020 wish list for the basketball program

My short list:

1) Do something, anything to get the students back. The decline in student attendance has been dreadful.

2. Recruit more 100-200 level HS recruits. Feron is the only 4-star/high 3-star level recruit we’ve landed in the last three cycles.

3. Give us an OOC schedule we can be proud of, or at the very least one that won’t kill us if we lose a couple.

Going in reverse order. 3. Young team, lots of new parts, would you really have wanted to face Kentucky this year and lost by 50?
2. Everyone wants to do that. What ideas do you have that Jank hasn't tried yet?
1. Probably a function of the schedule to some degree. But hey, this team has some decent players who deserve the support of the student body. They should show up no matter how good or bad the team or the opposition is. With student support a few tough games could turn into wins.

I was really hoping to get the wish list of other rather a critique of my own but at least you’re staying consistent with what PFs has become, attack the other 25 people here rather than share your own ideas.

I'll go.

1) I want to see Jasey, Ethan, or Ray develop into a quality starter at the 5. I want Ray to see more time with his defensive energy.
2) I want to see CJ continue his development off the bench.
3) I want to see Band or Smith develop as a second solid bench guard.
4) I want to see improvement in offensive and defensive execution at the end of games so that we can win close contests in conference.
5) I want to see this team compete with Houston, Temple, Cincy, UCF, and UConn for a top 5 spot in the league and an NIT bid.
6) I want a new coach IF we aren't competitive in league play.

I too don’t understand the mindset of many on this board.

EVERY SINGLE FB or BB HC SMU has rolled out over the past 30+ years has been at a severe disadvantage due to either academic restrictions, ‘The Model’, embarrassingly meager attendance (accentuated by the demise of the SWC over 25 years ago), 2nd-rate facilities or overall administrative/alumni/student apathy. Most likely it is a combination of many of these factors.

ALL have had to deal with these disadvantages except for one, Tim Jankovich.

He inherited a team that had the 4th winningest percentage in college basketball. He inherited a team that sold out all its home game. He inherited Moody Madness.

So what does he do when given controls to this luxury jet? He immediately places it in a death spiral for which it cannot recover.

The plane crashes and burns in record time.

And what is the reaction of too many on this board???????????

Let’s see more development from player X
Let’s schedule better opponents
Let’s see if we can get an NIT bid
Let’s see if we can recruit better players
Let’s see if we can be more competitive in conference play
Let’s see if we can bring back LB or some other person to mentor

NEWS FLASH - He can’t recruit. He’s a so-so bench coach. He ain’t the man.

Nothing changes until we have a new HC, period.

1. Resume the 1980's student athlete incentive program.
2. Find boosters to fund the 1980's student incentive program.
3. Outbid Kentucky and Kansas for good players.

Just kidding. Would just like to see us get better next year. See the School continue to market our athletic programs as Dallas' school.

1. NCAA or NIT bid.
2. Run off 2-3 players adding top talent via HS top 150, transfer portal, and possibly a graduate transfer.
3. Improved schedule and attendance.
4. If 1, 2, 3 don’t happen bring in Rick Pitino

Since we are talking about a wish list and not a prediction, how about going unbeaten at Moody in AAC play? That just might bring the fair weather fans back.

I wish that the team play as well every night as they did against USF. Even against the good teams.
