So current players should speak out against the dude who threatened to call future employers and kill job prospects?
This dude is toxic and the team isn't even winning. The worst of both ends of a bargain. Get rid of him and start over.

Perhaps because current players are still vulnerable?
No idea why, just pointing out what I've read.

Gonna go with no..that said, Sam was embedded with the team for three full days as he wrote the UConn piece. No comment from anyone at all then or since? Seems like the story is half told.

I don't dispute that Mays words were inappropriate. But jumping on the Sam bandwagon when he is clearly biased with an apparent axe to grind with no regard for both sides is problematic. What will be the response when he does a piece on the kid at Cal who died during offseason workouts and he says "SMU did not make Coach Dykes available, but here's what all these guys with exactly the same point of view said..and no counter point of view is offered" ?

I'm not understanding this hatred for Sam. no one he mentioned in the article has denied any of it. In fact, even Hart said it was true.

I think the pink elephant is -

If you tell your players to work harder
And they need to be motivated by other means is telling them to kill them selves a legitimate reason for termination .

My opinion is a resounding yes.
But nobody gives a rat's [deleted] about women's basketball anyways.

Maybe we should all show up with T shirts that say if you can't win coach die. What a mess.

Sam has been a tool on Twitter with the attendance tweets and various other things the first few months he was here. The ECU homecoming tweet was one of the dumbest things I've seen in a while.
But NO ONE has disputed his reporting, not even the university.
It's easy to wave SMU pom poms and dismiss what he writes, but don't you think SMU would've come out guns blazing if even part of this initial story was wrong?
Wanting to get rid of Mays doesn't mean you're "team Sam."
Life is shades of grey, not black and white. And attacking the writer of the story instead of what he actually reported is revealing.
Some people are worth "rallying around." The head coach of a losing women's basketball team isn't one of them.

Mays should probably go at the of the season, but Sam is trash. He doesn’t even try to hide his hatred of SMU with his “reporting.” If you cant see that, congratulations—you’re the idiot!

It's not his job to be a cheerleader, and he has written more positive stories than any DMN reporter in years (partly because he showed up when football won 10 games). He has been more than fair and does a good job.

Back on topic, anyone else going to WBB this afternoon? I'm more than curious.

Great...this story about SMU just made ESPN Sports Center "Parting Shots" and it was not good. Thanks Hart and Turner for allowing this slow bleed nightmare to go national....this only solidifies why all three need to go.

Current player just yesterday publicly refuted Sam’s report re: WBB team culture. It seems the only group that’s publicly complaining is a group of seniors who (1) committed to a different coach (Rhonda) and (2) were kind of thrown under the bus by Rhonda in public comments when she resigned. Also two of those complaining are Frolings, we should remember from the Harry saga and the parents involved there that it’s a drama queen family that loves nothing more than to complain publicly.

I’m not saying Mays didn’t make mistakes (we all do), but I’m not sure they rise to the level of an in-season, for cause termination that could potentially open the school up to a wrongful termination lawsuit. Say what you want about Hart but he’s not an idiot, he knows a lot more about this situation than any of us and he made the call not to can Mays...I’m fairly certain Rick wouldn’t jeopardize his own career trajectory to cover for a sub-.500 WBB coach if there was really something terrible going on behind the scenes.

As for Sam, he’s a diva who loves negative attention. His “reporting” on Raylen Sharpe’s recruitment was laughably stupid, and don’t forget his selectively timed and positioned tweets about SMU football attendance this year to make us look bad. I know it’s not his job to be a cheerleader for SMU sports, but he’s more than happy to play the role of the troll (a la Dale Hansen) and crap all over SMU if he thinks it will get him a few more retweets. He’s a cancer and I can’t wait until he’s far, far away from our athletic program.

If you need to hear it from someone else, I can help you out with that. Every word in that article was true.

I'm not Sam Blum. I used to post on this forum under a couple of different names, ProfX and Balatro Diabolus Ex, I stopped posting for a little while in 2018,and when I tried to come back my login stopped working. Half the people on this board know me personally in real life, and they know I have followed the womens basketball program closely for more than 30 years. Every word in that article was true. I either witnessed it personally, or heard about it immediately afterward from the players and their parents.

I'm not saying this out of some kind of antipathy toward SMU. I'm an SMU alum, I played football for the Mustangs, after I graduated I was an adjunct professor in the chemistry department. Part of the reason I came to SMU is that my father went here. I grew up a Mustang. Every word in that article was true.

There's actually more. The article hits the highlights, but there's a fair bit of small, petty stuff that isn't mentioned.

Mays wont be fired this year, he has another year on his contract, and they are not about to pay to buyout his contract early.

Opinions vary within the current team on Mays, the original divide he created was between the players he recruited and the ones he didn't, but it didn't stay that way. Devri Owens was one of his recruits. So were Tiara Davenport, Marie Olsen, the Ellis sisters, and Morgan Smith, all of whom are gone now. Savannah Ellis put links to Klara Bradshaw's blog posts in her twitter feed, and expressed her support. I can tell you stories later, but time is short right now, and I have to get to the game. Tipoff at 2, but I meet some friends beforehand.

Before I go I'm going to mention that the teams on-court performance has declined progressively, every year their RPI and Strength of schedule has dropped lower. 11 wins last year may be better than 10 the year before. and we might win 12 this year, but thats partly due to softer scheduling. I believe the current RPI is 212.

Every word in the article was true. I hope that helps you.

I cannot believe what I am reading here. Victim blaming, victim shaming, shooting the messenger, minimizing, excusing, justifying. It's appalling. You have to be a sociopath to be indifferent to what happened.

This is why sexual assault victims don't speak up.
