The virus so far has been shone to be more contagious and more lethal than the flu.

All of that said, the really issue is the hospitalization rate. 15%. That is a gigantic number, and the reason for everything getting shut down. And that 15% is both young and old, it is just that the old people are more likely to die once hospitalized. If 1% of the US gets the virus (3.3M) and 15% of that go to the hospital (500,000), our hospitals can't handle that influx. The hospitals will be so flooded that other simple ER cases will not be processed, and a lot of people will die from mild heart attacks, pneumonia, and simple flu escalations.

Listen to the scientists, not the media or politicians on this thing. We are all lucky that the organizers of these events are listening to the scientists. The caution may seem extreme, but it is warranted to protect the health care system.

I read this morning that some of the experts on these virus' said there are probably a great many walking around infected who will never get sick or of course, be hospitalized and die. There fore the percent of infected people who die is far less than what is reported.

Yes, that is why they give a large range of what the mortality rate is - anywhere from 3.5% to 5% (Italy) all the way down to at or a little below 1%.

That said, at minimum the mortality rate is still 10x greater than the flu (0.1%). Remember, a lot of people who get a mild case of the flu also don't go to the doctor to get tested because it is mild or someone else in the house got it and they know what they have. So when you make the exceptions for Corona it is important to recognize that those same exceptions are true for the flu.

And again, the hospitalization rate for this is way higher than the flu.

The people who want to compare this to a flu are the media and politicians. Don't listen to them.

No, but I have the common sense to recognize that when events that bring in millions and millions of dollars of revenue are being shut down, that isn't just because of rumor an innuendo, and it isn't some media conspiracy.

This is a viable threat with the potential to do real, significant damage. So it is appropriate to try and slow the spread as much as possible.

Only landlords are safe. Honestly I would consider freezing mortgage payments, rent, recurring bills etc. Otherwise there will be a huge amount of homelessness very soon.

Landlords in here in the fabulous Hamptons are proper-f@@ked. You can no longer evict. Yet Hamptons homeowners are filling their vacant second homes with three month rentals beginning immediately. These idiots haven’t considered that they just let people into their houses for (a price-gouging 5-10k per month) and have no way to get them out when that same house could rent for 50k for July. Under normal circumstances an eviction takes 90 days. But with newly imposed tenant protections there is absolutely no reason to leave when summer comes. This is gonna be fun.
