Since this was started on the football page, what is the best basketball moment you have seen live?

I haven't been able to watch many games live since moving away from Dallas in 1987, but off the top of my head, I really enjoyed Kato Armstrong eating Notre Dame's David Rivers' lunch in Chapel Hill at the NCAA sub regional there in the late 80's...an in particular Kato juking Rivers, driving the lane and dunking in the face of Notre Dame's big man (can't recall his name)

One of my other favorites was as a student, watching SMU beat a ranked Nebraska team and Clayton Korver whipping the SRO Moody crowd into a frenzy with some "exclamation point" rebounding as he would grab the ball with one hand and then slap the ball loudly with his other hand while swinging elbows to clear out anybody close to him (and of course hair flying wildly for extra effect)

My memory is fading but there have been so many great moments at Moody. The Bliss years were great and I had season tickets in the 2nd row mezzanine right behind the SMU bench back then. Watching games played to a packed Moody always made it more special for me

Wasn't that also during the Kato Armstrong years? I remember Dean Smith saying "I can't wait for that kid to graduate"

Any game with Gene Phillips was a highlight, but it is hard to pick anything ahead of the first UConn game in new Moody.

Kato Armstrong's duel with Michael Williams from Baylor in SWC Tournament Championship at ReUnion would have to be close to the top-I was too young to see SMU in Tournament live in the 60s although I went to all the games at Moody

SMU actually never made it to No. 1 in 1985 because SMU lost in Lubbock on Saturday Nite. Crushing loss I got to witness. SMU actually made about a 9 point run late in game-in about the last minute- but Tech prevailed by 1 with a late basket by --a New Mexico kid-forgot his name-oh yeah Tony Benford

There are a couple for me...a few years back my wife and I went up to Michigan for the game that we won. It was Kennedy's first game back and we talked to him and Nic after the game. MK was like a little kid getting to be back out there. And a second was when we went to Memphis for the game which we also won. What made it so special was because it was probably the only time I was scared for my safety at a bball game. Their was a group of women who were really nasty so beating Memphis was extra fun because of them.

Second half of that Cincy game in 2014 at Moody when they were ranked #7 and we just dismantled them.

Best ever: 2011 NBA Finals Game 5 at the AAC. Loudest arena I’ve ever been in and my team took a 3-2 lead over LBJ on the way to an NBA title. It was glorious.

SMU: 2014 vs. Cal when Nic hit the game winning 3. Then most stuck around and sang “New York, New York” as we advanced to MSG in the NIT Final Four. It was also glorious.

'79 defeat in Moody against the Whores. Reggie Franklin (6'4" center) dominated and the football team sat behind the Whores' bench to give Abe Lemons some pointers. Reggie was beyond the Zone and one could see the fear in the Whores' players during timeouts.
