This has SMU ahead of Tulsa, Memphis & Wichita State? Going to have to prove that beginning Thursday night vs Memphis and Sunday vs Wichita State

Who would have thought Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, and SMU would all be unrankable this season!

With the virus and what we don't know what will happen, i find the brackets a bit amusing at this point.

One writer's take on SMU's chances of making it to March Madness. Seems like a real longshot beating Memphis AND Houston in our next two games, not to mention still having to play Tulsa and Wichita State twice.

I want to take a team that's out of the ordinary here, but also a team that I think is positioned well enough to win out and make a move. Looking at the American Athletic Conference, there's a good chance this is no more than a two-bid league this season. But I do think the league is too sturdy to be anything worse than that. There's going to be another team that gets in aside from Houston, and SMU figures to be the best of the bunch. The Ponies sit at No. 53 in the NET as of this story's publishing. They're 51st in the Massey Composite rankings. Home vs. Memphis at Houston are the next two. If SMU wins both, it will have split its season series with both teams. This is a longer shot, but I'll take it because this figures to be the second-best team in a league that should worm its way to two bids. -- Matt Norlander

It really feels like a one-bid league this season - but at least we have a chance to do something about that.

As does Memphis. Tonight's game is a big one

CBS' Joe Lunardi has the AAC as a one bid league. Only SMU gets a mention so it's becoming increasingly more clear we have to beat Houston to have a shot at March Madness. Another loss to Houston and I'm not even sure that winning out in the regular season gets us much consideration.

We have been hanging in the "next four out" range for a while. Yesterday's win didn't even really help our NET at all - we moved down one spot.

A win over Houston is looking like a must!!!

Pretty much. Have to show you can beat another tournament worthy team and Houston looks like the only sure fire tournament worthy team in the AAC. Pretty good balance in this league, but not enough opportunities this season for good wins by anybody in the non-conference to offset the P5 bias
