Davis Named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas (The American/SMU) – Kendric Davis was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Davis had 25 points, eight assists and three steals in the 71-56 win at ECU on Feb. 8. This is his second Player of the Week honor this season. He has also been on the weekly honor roll six times.

Davis, a Preseason All-AAC First Team and Lute Olson National Player of the Year Mid-Season Watch List member, is averaging 17.7 points (2nd AAC), 7.6 assists (1st AAC, 3rd NCAA) and 1.5 steals (4th AAC) with a 2.9 assist-to-turnover ratio (1st AAC, 24th NCAA). He is also among the league leaders in FG% (47.1, 8th) and FT% (85.9, 3rd AAC) while hitting 32.1% on threes. He has four points-assists double-doubles this season. He has at least five assists in 12 of 15 game this season, including an AAC-record 14 assists versus Cincinnati on Jan. 7.

SMU is 11-4 on the season with a 7-4 record in American Athletic Conference play.

Pretty impressive!

If Davis keeps this up we might need to start thinking about getting a big 3 sticker for the front of the suites at Moody.

Jank has 2 guys coming in next year to hopefully compete for the position (assuming Kendric will not use his final year of eligibility?). Appears Zhuric Phelps is more highly thought of than Jalen Smith but both guys have height so would be nice if either turns out to be anywhere near the player Nic and Kendric were for us
