Mass exodus?Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Mass exodus?Transfer portal really is crazy this year. Looks like half of Memphis' team is exploring their options, including Boogie Ellis. Have to wonder what the various motivations might be...finish your eligibility playing closer to home? Issues with current coaching staff & minutes/role? Opportunities for graduate studies? Desire to compete for conference championship & post season play?
Will be interesting to see how many guys stay where they are after exploring their options.
Re: Mass exodus?
Would be a great replacement for Hunt but my guess is that he will end up at some ACC program where he might actually get to play in the post season...or he stays and adds to his legend at ECU
Re: Mass exodus?
I would look at it a little differently. These guys look up to the NBA, and see players constantly moving around to form "super teams". I think this is what you are going to see in college basketball. Everyone hops in the portal, and groups of players coordinate together in order to determine which school the group wants to go to and try and form a super team. The players who don't get pulled into those conversations will just stay where they are. What is going to suck is circumstances where, just as an example, Ethan puts his name in the portal to see what is out there, a super group chooses SMU, and then suddenly Ethan doesn't have a scholarship. Not saying we might get a super group, just providing an example.
Re: Mass exodus?Ethan is in a no-lose situation as normally his eligibility would be exhausted by now. Due to COVID-19 he is in an unprecedented bonus year. If he lands somewhere better great. If he loses his seat at the table what is the harm?
Re: Mass exodus?I worry more about K.D. going off to join a "super team" that needs a PG
Re: Mass exodus?
A lot of fans and former fans worry more about the fact that our incompetent AD and useless coach are still here and will be destroying this program for another year. Plus the pseudo supporters of bball have all vanished and no longer care about having a quality program.
Re: Mass exodus? At least they let Mays go. Looks like the new hire is pretty good. If anyone here wants to fund the buyout and hiring bonus for a new coach, they should Pony Up. I remember working the phones at an Annual Fund drive and a guy who gave like $50 a year said, he wouldn't give until Dave Smith was gone as Coach. I said, I'd need about 5 more zeros behind the gift to get that done. He hung up on me.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Mass exodus?
At this point, I think there is a lot of "what the hell, why not" going on.
Re: Mass exodus?
Hope Everett can find a program where he can get some minutes before using up his eligibility.
Re: Mass exodus?PG Phelps, Smith
SG Nutall, Bandoumel, McBride SF PF Young Jr. C Anei, Jasey Davis is likely coming back after testing the waters Jolly could still come back Gone: Hunt Chargois Ray Douglas Smith IV McNeill
Re: Mass exodus?
Other than Hunt, I suppose there is always the possibility some of the guys on that "gone" list might decide they would rather play another year at SMU but the question remains as to whether Jank will welcome them back. I assume Chaggy would be a top priority. Meanwhile, Davis is the key to the backcourt although according to 247 sports, incoming FR Zhuric Phelps is the 5th highest rated guy we've signed in recent history, falling right in behind Shake and Sterling. Let's hope he can live up to that hype! https://247sports.com/college/smu/Seaso ... l/Commits/
Re: Mass exodus?UC just suspended their coach pending further investigation.
