At the same time, we better make the NCAA tournament because these are almost all 1 year players so there will not be any way to improve the following season, simply reload.

We got Mordeci and Calcaterra from the Okies. I can live with this.

They can lose without him just as easily as they lost with him.

Anyone involved with SMU, as a sports fan, student, alum or otherwise is well served by high levels of both cynicism and pessimism.

I don’t understand how anyone could think that way. Basketball is a little frustrating right now, so ok maybe. Far and away the best time to be an SMU football fan since before I graduated in the late ‘80s.

Look at it from old geezer land. We were in the SWC, we were relevant in National Championship discussions in football. We were ranked #1 in hoops for one week at the same time. We played UT, A&M, Arkansas every year. Losing to Virginia Tech got a coach fired. Then, the death penalty happened. We've had a revolving door of coaches in both sports. Whenever things looked positive, something bad happened. Larry Brown gets punished by the NCAA, then quits. June Jones has two good seasons, doesn't get hired by ASU, gets depressed and quits. Chad has one good season and gets hired by Arkansas.

Also, look at what some of our former conference mates have accomplished in recent years!

Houston: NY6 Bowl and Final Four
TCU: Rose Bowl Champions and several NY6 bowls, NIT Champions
Baylor: Heisman Trophy, NY6 bowls, a national championship and NIT championship in men's basketball and 3 NCAA championships in women's basketball. This after being a program with no history of success in either sport for its entire existence.
Texas Tech: NY6 Bowl, Final Four (runner up)
Texas A&M: NY6 Bowl, Heisman Trophy, Several NCAA tournament appearances in men's basketball including Sweet 16's
Rice: Conference champions in football

I would submit that Morris getting hired by Arkansas was a great thing ... for SMU. No way here would have the program trending like Sonny does.

EastStang, I get the envy and all that. But the fact of the matter is we were by and large highly mediocre historically in both football and basketball. The 80’s were an anomaly. I do miss the SWC for sure though.

Looking at our departing player's transfer destinations I'm not that impressed beyond Tyson ending up with Rick Pitino and Ethan Chargois going to OU. I think if we manage to land a top PF we will have tremendously upgraded our roster.

Tyson Jolly Iona (MAAC)
Ethan Chargois (Big XII)
Darius McNeill UTSA (CUSA)
Charles Smith IV ODU (CUSA)
William Douglas (SWAC)
Everett Ray ?

We need to step it up.
