WBB lands first transfer

Postby PonyPride » Mon Apr 12, 2021 7:44 pm

According to her Twitter account, former Notre Dame forward Amirah Abdur Rahim has committed to SMU. The 6-3 Abdur Rahim was a freshman for the Irish in 2020-21, coming off the bench in eight games.

She attended St. Francis HS in Marietta, Ga., where she averaged 14.1, 4.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.4 blocks per game as a senior while shooting 60.1 percent from the floor.. Abdur-Rahim shot an impressive 60.1 percent on the year points per game. She was a 2020 Georgia Athletic Coaches Association (GACA) All-State Team selection – Class A North honoree, 2020 AJC Class A Private All-State Honorable Mention and named a 2020 Atlanta All-Metro First Team selection in the North Fulton district.

She also competed on the track team as well, where she ran the 200, 400 and 800 meter relays. Also competed in the high jump and triple jump.

Seems to fit head coach Toyelle Wilson's emphasis on defense. When she signed with Notre Dame, HC Muffet McGraw said "Adding a great defender in Amirah. She’s someone who can block shots and guard anybody on the floor, from point guard to center. She’ll help us in the press as well. She can run the floor and help us in transition. She’s also a three-point threat. We don’t have anyone like her."

Dang! Coach is already on the job!

**just googled the new addition** She was a top 100 player out of high school and part of 3 recruits in her class at Notre Dame that earned a top 10 recruiting class designation for the Irish. This is a great talent infusion and she will only get better!

We are going to need all the help we cant get as Rhyle McKinney was ranked #96 overall and the #25 guard in the country. Amirah Abdur-Rahim was ranked the #41 forward in the country.

From SMUMustangs.com:

Wilson Adds Notre Dame Transfer Abdur-Rahim To 2021-22 Roster

DALLAS (SMU) – SMU women's basketball head coach Toyelle Wilson announced the addition of Amirah Abdur-Rahim to the roster for the 2021-22 season, who transfers to the Hilltop after playing her freshman season at Notre Dame.

"I'm incredibly excited to announce that Amirah is going to be part of the Mustang family. She brings toughness, athleticism, and a championship mindset that I felt was necessary for our team," Wilson said. "She will make an immediate impact and raise the level of competitiveness that will make us a better program."

A Marietta, Georgia, native, Abdur-Rahim was a 2020 Georgia Athletic Coaches Association All-State selection, and an Atlanta Journal Constitution Class A Private All-State Honorable Mention at St. Francis High School. She also earned All-Metro First Team honors in the North Fulton district after averaging 14.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.4 blocks during her senior season. The forward shot 60.1 percent from the field during the campaign, while leading the Knights to a runner-up finish in the state championship tournament.

As a junior, Abdur-Rahim was named to the espnW HoopGurlz Super 60 and averaged 12.8 points per game before an injury cut her season short. During her sophomore season, she scored 9.5 points per game to lead St. Francis to the semifinals of the state tournament, finishing with a 26-5 record. She also was a member of the track team, running the 200-, 400- and 800-meter relays as well as competing in the high jump and triple jump.

At Notre Dame, Abdur-Rahim played in eight games, scoring eight points on 4-of-10 shots from the field. She also grabbed nine rebounds with three assists, one block and one steal while averaging 5.7 minutes.

She is the 11th of 13 children and the sister of Shareef Abdur-Rahim, who played 13 seasons in the NBA and averaged 18.1 points per game. Shareef is currently the President of the NBA G League.

From what I saw she was a major prospect out of high school (#52 in the country according to ESPN) but was a big disappointment at Florida State averaging about 3-5 points throughout her career. If she can come close to her potential we got ourselves an amazing player!
