According to her social media accounts, former Rice guard Sydne Wiggins is transferring to SMU.

The 5-11 Wiggins, of Powder Springs, Ga., played in 21 games as a freshman, started 29 of 31 games as a sophomore, started all 29 games in which she played as a junior and all 26 in which she played last season. Last year she averaged 8.2 points per game (tied for fourth on the Rice team) and 4.2 rebounds. Her 24 steals and 103 assists trailed only fellow guard Jasmine Smith ... who also has announced she is transferring to the Hilltop.

She led the Owls with 32.3 minutes per game, shot .465 from the floor, including .354 from three-point range and a team-high .857 from the free-throw line.

So basically we now have a couple of Rice's experienced backcourt players and their 3rd and 4th leading scorers from last year's team that finished 23-4. Sounds promising for WBB.

Who is the other player from Rice?

From my count our incoming transfers include:
Amirah Abdur-Rahim from Notre Dame who will be a Sophmore
Keyanna Warthen from Indiana who will be a Senior
Savannah Wilkerson from Florida State who will be a Senior
Sydne Wiggins from Rice who will be a Senior

I don't expect much from the team this year, but hopefully we can compete enough to at least approach .500

Thank you! I hadn't been keeping a list like I did for the men's team and she is not yet on the roster so I forgot about her. It looks like we've added some nice players this off-season.

Amirah Abdur-Rahim from Notre Dame who will be a Sophmore
Keyanna Warthen from Indiana who will be a Senior
Savannah Wilkerson from Florida State who will be a Senior
Jasmine Smith from Rice who will be a Senior
Sydne Wiggins from Rice who will be a Senior

Hopefully this added experience helps us compete this season. We will definitely need to add some key freshman and transfers next season but I like the attempt to compete from day one.

A quick look at stats suggests Wiggins could be the best if the bunch.

Best part: 4 of them are seniors, so the new coaches have time to find and recruit replacements

Danielle Sanderlin from UMass who will be a Senior

New coach, new team and a roster with enough experience to hopefully be competitive immediately in the AAC.

Considering 4 of last year's top 5 scorers are returning and with the addition of these transfers, I would hope for improvement on the 13-16/7-9 results of their last full season. Surely it can't be worse than last year's 0-6 start before WBB threw in the towel. Hope Coach Wilson and this roster can enjoy some immediate success.
