Looks like the Godfather is indeed back...in the conference. From Shams on Twitter:
Hall of Fame coach Larry Brown has agreed to become an assistant coach at Memphis under Penny Hardaway, sources tell me and
@GoodmanHoops.

Will be interesting to see if Coach Brown has an immediate impact on what has been an underachieving program under Hardaway, at least considering the talent he has been able to recruit. Memphis obviously had concerns about bringing Larry in, given his track record in college, but Penny was "negotiating" from a position of strength and Memphis is committed to winning and winning big.

SMU has won 10 out of the last 15 versus Memphis State...Maybe this is a “how do we beat SMU, coach?” strategy? Like the Arkansas press conference a few years back when Nutt was hired, first question at the presser was, “Coach, can you beat SMU?” Waiting for a similar question at the Brown - Hardaway presser.

That "How can we beat SMU?" was always more of an issue for UConn than Memphis!

We have had our way for the most part v Tiger Tech over the last 15 games, 6-7 seasons....they hate us and I love it.

[quote="Charleston Pony"] Memphis is committed to winning and winning big.

meanwhile in big D SMU is committed to trying to be mediocre in both bball and academics. Winning conference titles and late runs in the NCAA march madness tourney start with a competent coach and active supporters, something we are totally lacking..

A friend of mine from Memphis said that Penny had no say in Larry coming on.

I also read that Hardaway is not getting the Orlando job.

Larry won't recognize Moody.

It’ll be neat to see LB again in Moody.

If Larry does indeed go to Memphis, he will once again pack Moody. Terrible decision letting him go.
