Kendric Davis Named AAC Player of the Week For The Second Time This Season

IRVING, Texas (SMU/American Athletic Conference) - Kendric Davis was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. This is his second Player of the Week selection this season and third weekly honor overall.

Davis averaged 19.5 points, 6.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals as the Mustangs defeated UNLV, 83-64, and Vanderbilt, 84-72, to improve to 7-3 on the season. He shot 11-of-20 (55.0%) from the field, 4-of-10 (40.0%) from 3-point range and 13-of-15 (86.7%) at the free-throw line. In the comeback win over Vanderbilt, he had 17 of his 21 points in the second half, going 4-of-4 from the floor, 2-of-2 on threes and 7-of-9 on free throws after the break.

This is Davis' fourth career AAC Player of the Week award, which is the most in The American by a Mustang. It his 14th conference weekly honor, which is second only to Nic Moore's 20 AAC weekly award selections from 2013-16.

Davis is on the 2021-22 Wooden Award Watch List, Naismith Trophy Watch List, Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award Watch List, Lute Olson National Player of the Year Watch List and was a unanimous preseason All-American Athletic Conference First-Team selection.

Through 10 games this season, Davis is averaging 20.3 points (2nd AAC, 24th NCAA), 5.6 assists (1st AAC, 22nd NCAA), 4.9 rebounds (20th AAC) and 1.5 steals (12th AAC) while shooting 49.6% overall (5th AAC), 40.4% on threes and 87.7% on free throws (1st AAC). Davis has a 1.8 assist-to-turnover ratio (7th AAC) and is making 2.3 three-pointers per game (9th AAC).

Last season, Davis was selected unanimous All-AAC First Team, NABC All-District First Team and USBWA All-District. He was also one of 35 named to the Lute Olson National Player of the Year Mid-Season Watch List. Davis averaged 19.0 points (1st AAC, 44th NCAA), 7.6 assists (1st AAC, 4th NCAA), 4.2 rebounds and 1.6 steals (4th AAC) with a 3.2 assist-to-turnover ratio (1st AAC, 10th NCAA). He also was among the league leaders in FG% (48.1, 7th AAC), 3FG% (37.3, 12th AAC) and FT% (83.3, 5th AAC). He had five points-assists double-doubles, and was the only player in the country to lead his league in both scoring and assists. Davis was also twice named AAC Player of the Week in 2020-21 with six additional appearances on The American weekly honor roll.
