Phelps Named AAC Freshman of the Week, Davis Earns Fourth Weekly Honor Of The Season

IRVING, Texas (SMU/American Athletic Conference) – Zhuric Phelps was named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday. Kendric Davis was named to The American Weekly Honor Roll, his fourth league award of the season.

Phelps had a season-high 13 points with two steals, two rebounds and an assist in the 77-69 win over Dayton at Moody Coliseum on Wednesday. Phelps hit 6-of-8 from the floor and knocked down his only three-point attempt.

Davis was named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll after totaling 19 points, five assists, three steals and three rebounds in the victory over Dayton. This is his fourth weekly honor of the season, including two AAC Player of the Week selections. It is his 15th conference weekly honor, which is second by a Mustang to Nic Moore's 20 AAC weekly award selections from 2013-16.

Davis is on the 2021-22 Wooden Award Watch List, Naismith Trophy Watch List, Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award Watch List, Lute Olson National Player of the Year Watch List and was a unanimous preseason All-American Athletic Conference First-Team selection.

Through 11 games this season, Davis is averaging 20.2 points (1st AAC, 19th NCAA), 5.5 assists (1st AAC, 22nd NCAA), 4.7 rebounds and 1.6 steals (10th AAC) while shooting 50.0% overall (2nd AAC), 42.6% on threes and 86.5% on free throws (2nd AAC). Davis has a 2.0 assist-to-turnover ratio (5th AAC) and is making 2.4 three-pointers per game (6th AAC).

The Mustangs (8-3) have won five straight games including the wins over UNLV, Vanderbilt and Dayton. SMU plays at New Mexico on Dec. 19 and then concludes the non-conference slate at home against Evansville on Dec. 21. For tickets and other game information, visit SMUMustangs.com/gameday.
