Kendric Davis Earns Third AAC Player Of The Week Award This Season

IRVING, Texas (SMU/American Athletic Conference) - Kendric Davis was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. This is his third Player of the Week selection this season and fifth weekly honor overall.

Davis scored a season-high 33 points, including 23 in the second half, of the 90-72 win at New Mexico on Sunday. He also had five rebounds, three assists and a steal with zero turnovers in 35 minutes. He finished the game 11-of-21 from the field and 9-of-9 on free throws. His scoring output at New Mexico is the most by an AAC player this season.

This is Davis' fifth career AAC Player of the Week award, which is the most in The American by a Mustang. It his 16th conference weekly honor, which is second at SMU to Nic Moore's 20 AAC weekly award selections from 2013-16. The three AAC Player of the Week honors ties Shake Milton (2017-18) for the most in a season for a Mustang.

Davis is on the 2021-22 Wooden Award Watch List, Naismith Trophy Watch List, Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award Watch List, Lute Olson National Player of the Year Watch List and was a unanimous preseason All-American Athletic Conference First-Team selection.

Through 12 games this season, Davis is averaging 21.2 points (1st AAC, 7th NCAA), 5.3 assists (1st AAC, 30th NCAA), 4.8 rebounds and 1.6 steals (8th AAC) while shooting 50.3% overall (2nd AAC), 40.0% on threes and 88.0% on free throws (2nd AAC, 39th NCAA). Davis has a 2.1 assist-to-turnover ratio (4th AAC) and is making 2.3 three-pointers per game (6th AAC).

The Mustangs (9-3) have won six straight games including consecutive wins over UNLV, Vanderbilt, Dayton and New Mexico. SMU's game on Dec. 21 was canceled due to COVID-19 cases and the pause in activities at Evansville. The Mustangs open American Athletic Conference play at Tulsa on Dec. 29.
