SMU To Play At TCU Sunday At 1 p.m.

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women's basketball team will play at TCU Sunday at 1 p.m. at Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. The Mustangs were originally scheduled to play at home against Saturday against ECU, but the game was postponed due to Covid-19 protocols in the ECU program. TCU was slated to host Kansas Sunday, but the game was postponed due to Covid-19 protocols within the Kansas program.

SMU is 5-6 overall, while the Horned Frogs enter the contest with a 4-4 record. Savannah Wilkinson leads the Mustangs with 15.5 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. She ranks 11th in the NCAA with seven double-doubles, including a program-record five straight to start the season.

Kayla White is scoring 12.6 points per game after a career-high 25 points against Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the last game. Jasmine Smith also scored a career-high 25 points against the Lady Lions. As a team, the Mustangs posted the highest point total of the season in the 86-74 victory.

TCU is led by Lauren Heard who is averaging 18.4 points. She is the only Horned Frog averaging double-figures. TCU hasn't played since Dec. 12, defeating Texas A&M 87-75.

SMU and TCU will meet for the 63rd time in a series that dates back to 1978, but this will be the first meeting between the two teams since the 2019-20 season. TCU edged the Mustangs 57-56 at Moody Coliseum in the last match-up.

Why did they have to schedule this the exact time as the Men playing at Moody. It would have made more sense to have had the game directly after the Men's game at Moody, certainly would have helped attendance.

If the only option was to play TCU in Ft. Worth the exact same time as the men played, SMU should have refused.

It's an opportunity to play a replacement game and against a rival I like this decision. I hope the men can do the same at some point this season if both SMU and TCU are facing Covid postponements brought on by our opponents

I definitely agree it is good to play TCU for a makeup game, the timing stinks though, they should have played in the evening and not make the SMU community choose.

And yes, I hope we can schedule a makeup game or two as well. With Jasey in the protocol, I hope it is not about to hit us hard. Hopefully, an isolated case.

So SMU made a mistake by not landing a last-minute spot in a replacement bowl game (in case it was offered, and without knowing how many other teams wanted it) ... and SMU made a mistake by accepting a replacement game against a rival in which the only cost is a bus ride across town?

I had to look at the score twice. TCU beat #18 ranked A&M three weeks ago so this was a huge surprise to me.

TCU led 11-4 at one point, before the Ponies ended the first half on a 40-13 run. Was fun to watch.

Definitely didn't expect it!

I wonder if Sonny was there.

Nice win for the Ponies!
