SMU Dominant In 79-53 Win At TCU Sunday

FORT WORTH, Texas (SMU) – The SMU women's basketball team won in dominant fashion Sunday, claiming a 79-53 victory at TCU. Jasmine Smith tied the SMU single-game record with 11 assists, and Savannah Wilkinson posted her eighth double-double of the season.

Trailing 19-14, the Mustangs finished the first quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 21-19 lead after the first 10 minutes. It was the third lead change of the game and would be the last. TCU made the first basket of the second quarter to tie the score, but SMU then went on a 23-3 run over the remainder of the quarter. At halftime, the Mustangs led 44-24 and never slowed down.

In the second half, SMU (6-6) extended the lead to as many as 30 points, 57-27 with 4:27 left to play in the third quarter after Reagan Bradley made a three pointer. The Mustangs won the third quarter by six, 20-14, and matched TCU (4-5) in the fourth, 15-15, for the 26-point win, the largest margin of victory for SMU since Jan. 15, 2019, when SMU defeated Wichita State 78-50. It is the largest margin of victory for either team in the SMU-TCU series since SMU won by 43 points, 86-43 on Feb. 19, 1998, in Fort Worth.

Smith finished with 18 points, following her career-high 25 points against Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the last game. She made four of her six field goals outside the 3-point line, and also grabbed six rebounds. Wilkinson finished with 16 points and matched her career high with 15 rebounds. Kayla White scored 21 points, reaching double figures in six straight contests, and the senior has eclipsed 20 in each of the last two games.

The Mustangs took care of the basketball, committing a season-low six turnovers, which TCU converted into just seven points. SMU shot 44.9 percent from the field, eclipsing 40 percent in four of the last five games.

SMU is scheduled to play at Temple in Philadelphia, Pa., on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT. It would be the first American Conference game of the season for both teams.

SMU had 22 assists on 31 made FGs and Jasmine Smith had 11 assists vs only one turnover to go with her 18 points. Quite a performance
