White Named The American Player Of The Week

IRVING, Texas (SMU/AAC) – Kayla White was named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week after averaging 26.5 points to lead SMU to two conference wins. The victories extended the SMU win streak to five, the longest since 2013-14, and SMU is 3-0 in the conference for the first time since 2012-13.

White scored a career-high 34 points against ECU, tied for ninth all-time at SMU and the most by a Mustang since McKenzie Adams scored 35 on Nov. 26, 2017. She shot 61.1 percent from the field and was 10-for-10 at the free throw line for the most points in a game by a player in The American this season.

She followed the career performance with 19 points in an overtime win against Tulane, with five points in overtime to secure the win. White finished the week shooting 51.4 percent from the field and had 11 rebounds.

White now ranks fourth overall in The American with 14.3 points per game and is second overall in shooting percentage at 43.7 percent.

This is the first Player of the Week award for White and the first by a Mustang this season.
