Care to amend your statement?

Jank is the man! beautiful job by SMU and the coaching staff.

Let's keep it rolling!

Go Ponies!

I think you misinterpreted what he meant. He obviously knew SMU would win an exciting game and feared women & children fainting and men having heart attacks. geezer has demonstrated time and time again how obsessed he is with SMU athletics

Houston contributed 30 bench minutes and played 8 guys. Moore played all 40 minutes and White & Shead played 37 minutes each

SMU had 44 bench minutes and played 10 guys. KD played 39 minutes, Band 37 & Marcus 35.

Wasn't a huge difference but the few minutes difference along with the home crowd certainly helped our guys' intensity level down the stretch. Just hope the same 5k or more will come out for each of the remaining home games. This team should be getting more attention than they have. Memphis, Cincy & Wichita State are all due to visit so hopefully Moody will be rocking!

I don't know if they were ranked at the time, but we did beat UConn the year they won the NC. In 1985, we beat UNC at Greensboro Coliseum. I should get UNC to pay me to stay away from their games. I've seen them twice in person. One time they lost to us, the second time they lost to William & Mary.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Post game, I think one of the radio guys, probably Scott, said that it was a home win against the highest ranked team #6 since a home win in 1967 against #3 Indiana.

Did a little reasearch:

In 1967 we lost our first 8 games, and then beat #3 Indiana at Dallas Convention Center.

9 Fri, Dec 29, 1967 REG Indiana (3) Big Ten W 91 84 1 8 W 1 Dallas Convention
Center

DCC Magic :!: 8)

I think that was Bob Prewitt's first year as HC after taking over from Doc Hayes.

Everyone knew coming into this game that it would take our guys' best defensive effort of the season and strong 3 point shooting to have any chance against this Houston team. While Houston shot lights out the 1st 25 minutes to take a big lead, our guys held them to 30% shooting the rest of the way and 0-7 from three while they whittled away at the lead. Our guys hit 52% and made 12 threes compared to Houston's 42% and 8 threes. Strong FT shooting always helps and Matt Doherty would be proud that once again our guys made more FTs (21) than Houston attempted (18) and hit almost 79% from the charity stripe. That kind of shooting helps you win close games. Thanks to all the Moody faithful who energized our guys and helped them pull this win out. I'm sure we can all remember some pretty special moments in Moody Coliseum. Moody Magic is fun to watch!

Poor Coach Prewitt, having to take over for Doc Hayes. Similar to Jank having to take over for Larry. High expectations for sure. At least Prewitt brought us Gene Phillips. He sure was fun to watch during my years at SMU. Can't imagine how prolific a scorer Phillips would have been playing with a 3 point line!

GAME THREAD: MBB vs Houston

Postby geezerdonk » Fri Feb 11, 2022 8:02 pm

Certainly an unexpected win by any measure even with Houston hobbled by the absence of their two best players. (Imagine SMU without Davis and say Bandoumel.) More losses in Houston's future now that their bubble has burst. More embarrassing, humiliating and disqualifying losses in SMU's future. NCAA tournament is an illusory delusion. Glad to eat a Buono (and I don't mean Sonny) size portion of crow if I'm wrong.
A long tradition of existence.
