[rv/rv] SMU (18-5, 9-2 American) at Temple (13-9, 6-5 American)
The Liacouras Center– Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
February 16, 2022 – 8 p.m. CT
TV: ESPNU

SERIES VS. TEMPLE (10-7) (9-7+): SMU has won three straight against Temple after splitting the matchups in 2019-20.

We were lucky to win the home game in January. I hope our guys come out hungry knowing they now have a target on their backs as the first place team in the conference and a team within striking distance of the top 25. We can't afford to lose ground in the race to the conference championship as it would drop us from the projected NCAA field too! I am cautiously optimistic, although I felt the same way about the Wichita State game. I hope this one turns out in our favor.

I was at the Temple game here, and we DID NOT win the game because we were lucky. Give the team credit.
They beat Temple by 8. Outscored them in the first half. Outscored them in the second half. Kendrick played poorly - tried to do way too much by himself. We played very good defense and held them to 35% shooting. Temple, I thought was very impressive. They have had very bad luck with injuries. They were missing key pieces in that game, and likely will be missing more key pieces tonight. SMU just need to play well and win, with or without KD.

I'm not saying we won the game due to luck. I am saying we were lucky to win the game because it was a tight game throughout and we finally managed to pull away at the end. We were down 3 with 6 minutes left in the game. That's a game we easily could have lost. I remember being very nervous throughout.

Jank should leave tickets for Markus Kennedy's entourage.

Seems like whenever they showed up in Philly there was a good home game vibe behind the SMU bench. They were always LOUD.

KD not in team photo that they just tweeted in front of Rocky statue. That is a little worrisome. Who might be running point tonight?

Apparently both Dunn and Williams have not been practicing and it looks like both are doubtful tonight. That’s huge.

The whole team was not in the picture, for instance, the Weathers brothers were missing also, so hopefully nothing to be concerned about. Maybe they had an online class they had to attend, or they had to study for a big exam tomorrow. Or maybe they were grounded for hiding Jank's guitar during luggage pickup!

Temple teams are usually well coached and scrappy to the final horn. This year’s team appeared to be both those things in January. Hope are Ponies are ready and hungry. I suspect they will be.

Time for Phelps & Michael Weathers to run the show and hopefully both Bandoumel and Nutall shoot well to take the pressure off. Might see more minutes from Jalen and Todorovic tonight. As usual, need to hit threes but with Phelps and Michael running the point, we might see more action in the paint as both of those guys tend to drive the lane whenever they get an opening.
