Excuse my ignorance but is ETSU and Texas A&M Commerce the same thing?

Yes. Like North Texas, they changed their name.

I’ll change the thread title to avoid confusion.

Thanks. I kept seeing ETSU referenced and did not realize the name change. I still call those north folks NTSU and the Tennessee folks as Memphis State so I understand

Mustangs just took the floor — to the eyeball test, SMU looks MUCH different. Last year, Todorovic was "a big guy who can shoot. Now he's clearly one of the little guys ... etc.

Tonight is TAMU-C's first game in Division I.

The Lions are ranked No. 308 in the first Ken Pom rankings — third-best in the Southland Conference. They were picked by conference coaches to finish seventh in the Southland this season.

TAMU-C has one starter — G/F Demarcus Demonia — back from last year. Last season, the 6-7 now-senior averaged 10.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. He shot 47.1 from the floor, 33.8 percent on 3-pointers and 69.2 percent from the free throw line.

Remember last year, when 6'5" Marcus Weathers battled bigger — much bigger — guys every night as the Mustangs' starting center?

The average height of this year's Mustangs is 6' 5-5/8"

The former East Texas State (at least when I went to SMU in the early 70's) not to be confused with East Tennessee State University. ETSU (Commerce) - home of former Dallas Cowboy Harvey Martin. Remember how NFL people marveled at the Cowboys' ability to find talent in obscure places...like Jethro Pugh of Elizabeth City State University? Not sure how long ago they became A&M Commerce but they've carried that name for years and pretty sure that was their name when we last played.

From SMUMustangs.com:

THE SERIES VS. A&M-COMMERCE (17-2): SMU is 17-2 vs the Lions, but this is only the second meeting since 1950. The last was Dec. 5, 1975, an 88-77 win at Moody Coliseum.

LAST MEETING VS A&M-COMMERCE (Dec. 6, 1975, W 88-77 at Moody Coliseum): The Mustangs had five players in double figures in the 88-77 win. Ira Terrell had team highs of 18 points, 15 rebounds and a then-SMU record eight blocked shots. Pete Lodwick (15 points), Bob Arnold (15), Michael Jaccar (13) and Joe Swedlund (10) were the other SMU players scoring in double figures.
