Embry Shines In Loss At No. 15 Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. – Chantae Embry returned to Norman, Okla., and dropped 20 points against the Sooners but SMU suffered a setback against No. 15/16 Oklahoma at the Lloyd Noble Center Friday.

With the 97-74 result, the Mustangs dropped to 1-1, while the Sooners moved to 2-0 on the young campaign.

Fueled by hot shooting, Oklahoma answered every run from the guest. The Sooners built a 49-37 advantage at the half by knocking down 18 of 31, including seven of their 12 attempts from three-point range.

Jasmine Smith and Savannah Wilkinson joined Embry in double digits, with 19 and 12 points, respectively.

In the third quarter, the two sides traded points, with SMU accumulating the bulk of its points in the paint or at the charity stripe. The Sooners continued to light it up from the outside draining four of their seven made buckets outside the arc, including a bank shot with seven seconds remaining in the frame and pushing the margin out to 13.

After letting the Mustangs hang around in the third quarter, Oklahoma sprinted out to a 19-point advantage, The Sooners drained three triples in succession, part of a 9-3 spurt in the first two minutes of the stanza.

TEAM RECORDS AND SERIES NOTES
• SMU fell to 1-1 on the season, while Oklahoma improved to 2-0.
• The Mustangs trail 10-5 in the all-time series, including 2-5 in Norman, Okla.
• SMU dropped their sixth straight in the series.
• The last Mustangs win in the series occurred Dec. 21, 2002, a 71-68 triumph in Norman.

TEAM NOTES
• SMU shot 34.9% from the floor, including 25% from three-point range.
• Oklahoma connected on 52.3% of its attempts from the floor, with 60.9% from behind the arc.
• SMU held a 43-30 edge on the glass, including 14-3 on the offensive end.
• The Mustangs converted 24-28 at the free-throw line, compared to 15-18 for the Sooners.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES
• Sophomore F Chantae Embry posted 20 points and four rebounds.
• The Norman, Okla., native set a new career best with the 20 points.
• Senior G Jasmine Smith tallied 19 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.
• Senior F Savannah Wilkinson tallied 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and two blocks
• She recorded her second double-double of the season and 16th of her career, all at SMU.
• Senior G Reagan Bradley finished with seven points, five boards and two assists.
• Sophomore Zaria Rufus totaled six rebounds and a bucket in her season debut.

The Mustangs conclude the two-game road swing in Waco, Texas, against No. 18/17 Baylor at 7 p.m.
