Mustangs Defeat North Texas 64-46

DALLAS, Texas (SMU) – SMU tallied its seventh straight win with a 64-46 victory over North Texas at Moody Coliseum Wednesday. The Mustangs are 8-2 on the season and have the program's longest winning streak since 2013-14.

Holding a 28-24 halftime advantage, SMU outscored the Mean Green 25-10 in the third quarter and carrying a 19-point cushion into the final period. The Mustangs knocked down 11 of 20 from the field during the quarter, including 3 of 5 from beyond the arc. They allowed just four field goals by North Texas, including 0 for 5 from long range.

In the opening 20 minutes, the Mean Green tallied the first four points, but SMU netted 18 of the final 25, including the last seven to lead 18-11 after one quarter.
Stagnation befell both offenses in the second quarter, with each side mired in long scoring droughts.

Ella Brow's layup increased the gap to eight at 28-16, with 6:22 remaining before intermission. The Mustangs failed to score the rest of the way and saw their margin trimmed to seven with 4:22 remaining.

A triple at the 46 second mark ended a stretch of three and a half scoreless minutes by North Texas and getting the guest within two possessions, 28-24 at the half.

Honored in a pregame ceremony for reaching the 1,000-point plateau, the Cypress, Texas, native facilitated the offense and set a school record with 12 assists.

• SMU moved to 8-2 on the season, while the Mean Green fell to 2-6
• The Mustangs lead the all-time series 33-19, including 22-5 at home.
• SMU extended its home-winning streak in the series to 17, dating back to Jan. 13, 1992 (77-59).

TEAM RECORDS
• The Mustangs won their seventh straight game, matching the longest stretch since the 2013-14 campaign.
• SMU ran off five in succession during the 2021-22 campaign, the first season under Toyelle Wilson.
• The 8-2 mark through 10 games equaled the second-best record in program history.
• It is the sixth time a Mustangs team started 8-2, with the last occurring in 2013-14 campaign.
• The 2004-05 team opened with nine wins in the first 10 contests.
• SMU held its ninth opponent below their scoring average in 10 games.
• North Texas failed to score 60 points, becoming the eighth team to do so and the third unable to tally 50.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES
• Senior G Jasmine Smith tallied 12 points, four rebounds, 12 assists, four blocks and one steal.
• She set a school record and a career high with the 12 assists.
• Smith netted her first double-double of the season,
• She scored at least 10 points in eight games, including seven straight.
• Senior F Savannah Wilkinson totaled 13 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal.
• Wilkinson recorded her 18th-career double-double, including four this season.
• She scored in double figures for the seventh time this season, including four-straight games.
• Junior G Tamia Jones recorded eight points, four boards, one assist and three steals.
• Freshman G Ella Brow chipped in with six points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals.
• Sophomore C Jessica Peterson contributed 12 points, six rebounds and one block.
• The 12 points set a new career high.
• Senior C Paige Bayliss added six points and five rebounds.
• Freshman G Jiya Perry chipped in five points, one assists and a steal.

Yeah, the gals seem to be doing fine. I will be pulling for them to be top 3 this year in AAC. Coach doing a nice job.
