Smith Scores Career High In Mustangs' Loss To No. 25 USF

DALLAS (SMU)- The SMU women's basketball team's 10-game home win streak came to an end Saturday afternoon with a narrow 65-63 loss to No. 25 South Florida inside Moody Coliseum. Jasmine Smith scored a career-high 26 points and added four rebounds and five assists.

Three Mustangs scored in double figures. Smith's career high led the way. Savannah Wilkinson added 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds, marking her fifth consecutive double digit scoring performance. Reagan Bradley tallied 14 points and three assists. The Mustangs recorded a season-low for turnovers with seven in the game.

SMU (14-7, 5-4 AAC) led 18-8 after the first frame. The Mustangs shot 67% (8-12) from the field in the quarter. Back-to-back three pointers from Chantae Embry and Reagan Bradley gave SMU a six point advantage in the first six minutes of the contest. The Mustangs closed the first on a 6-0 run, holding USF scoreless for the last 3:45 of the quarter.

Bradley drained her second three pointer of the day as the shot clock expired on the first possession of the second period. USF countered with a 13-2 run in the quarter. The game was tied at 32 apiece at the half. The Mustangs shot 57% (4-7) from the three point line in the first half.

SMU outscored USF 21-16 in the third quarter led by Smith's nine points. Wilkinson ended the quarter with two consecutive buckets followed by Smith drawing a charge to head to the fourth up 53-48.

After Smith's fourth three pointer of the night, SMU led 60-59 with 4:32 to play. Tied at 63 apiece with a minute to go, USF's Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu made a jumper to give the Bulls a 65-63 lead. An Embry steal in the final seconds gave SMU one last shot out of a timeout, but the last second effort fell short.
