Women's basketball falls In AAC quarterfinal

FORT WORTH, Texas (SMU) – The No. 5-seed SMU women's basketball team was eliminated from the American Athletic Conference Championship in the quarterfinals by fourth-seeded Houston, 52-33, Tuesday afternoon at Dickies Arena.

Savannah Wilkinson finished with a team-high nine points. Jasmine Smith added four points, three rebounds and four assists. Amirah Abdur-Rahim scored six points and grabbed two boards. Chantae Embry grabbed nine rebounds and Jessica Peterson added four points and seven boards.

SMU chipped away at the Houston lead by stringing together an 8-0 run in the third, including finishing the quarter making four straight field goals, but could not put together enough stops in the fourth quarter.

The Cougars led 24-11 at the break. The Mustangs jumped out to an early lead before Houston went on a run to lead 13-5 at the end of the first frame.

SMU finished the regular season and conference tournament with a 16-12 record under second-year head coach Toyelle Wilson. Savannah Wilkinson, Jasmine Smith and Ella Brow each earned All-American Athletic Conference honors. The Mustangs will await the announcement of the NCAA and WNIT brackets Sunday.
