Season over. Let's see what this team looks like next year.

Zhuric Phelps announced on social media that he is not transferring. Efe Odigie, Zach Nutall, Franklin Agunanne and Darius McBride walked on Senior Day; not sure if any could exercise a covid waiver for an extra year.
Will anyone else move on?

We will soon find out whether Lanier was a good hire. Pressure is on to upgrade immediately and to significantly improve on this year's disappointing results.

Was watching the grands today so didn't get to watch this game. Recorded it but had no expectation of winning nd doubt I will even watch it after the fact. At least they were competitive today, unlike the trip to Orlando earlier this year.

Some solid players coming back.

ECU and Tulsa coaches were also new. Yikes!
At least ECU won a game.

Is Jerome Tang at KSU the best newcomer coach of the year, replacing a fired coach?

One wonders how bad things would have been with Jank?

Might have had K.D. and Bandoumel back so it would have come down to replacing the Weathers brothers which would have been a tall order. The 2 incoming frosh he had recruited would probably not have helped much but he might have been able to finish close to .500

It was the right decision to move on from the Jank era as NIT appeared to be his ceiling

Another game, another collapse, another abdication by the coaches. Rob and the boys manage to all put on matching shirts, find the correct seat courtside and that pretty much ends their work day. How many wide open threes did UCF have? By wide wide open I don't mean 5 feet clear of a defender; I mean no defender on the same side of the court.
Nobody coming back can help turn the team around. Losing is engrained in them. And what player with any skill or pride would sign on for a year of humiliation. SMU basketball is a dead end.
Time to scrap the program and concentrate on volleyball.

Dennis Gates at Missouri deserves a nod for building a roster from scratch aside from one Cuonzo Martin holdover, but Tang gets the crown for landing Keyontae Johnson and getting KSU in the top 10. Overall, this was not an impressive season for first-year HCs.

amazing how some of these new coaches can build winning respectable teams their first year. and then there are the ponies who struggled to win even 10 games. IMO if we don't see a major recruiting result then we need to rethink our coaches.

Someone claimed in another thread that one of the reasons Lanier got the job was the decision makers were convinced that, with the help of NIL, he would be able to convince more local talent to stay home and play at SMU. I remember that being Dave Bliss' selling point and it started with his recruitment of Reggie Pink, then Carl Wright before the Death Penalty and Ken Pye blew it all up and resulted in Larry Johnson's not coming to SMU after Bliss had his commitment. As disappointing as this season was, I never felt like Lanier had lost this team which is the one positive I take from his 1st year at SMU

I was encouraged back in November because I thought I saw depth on the roster that we havent had in a while. Then I saw a lot of leads or at least competitive games fall apart in the last 10 minutes over and over again. Not for lack of effort on the part of the players IMO. That means bad coaching doesn't it? I'm willing to listen to anyone who has more basketball savvy than myself tell me otherwise. But given the transfer portal and the emergence of NIL teams are being built overnight these days. Kentucky and others have been putting new rosters on the court sucessfully for years although I don't compare us to them by any stretch.
