Mitchell Holmes and Chance Puryear have signed to play for the Mustangs beginning with the 2024-25 season, SMU Head Coach Rob Lanier announced.

Mitchell Holmes, F, 6-10, 215, Fort Worth, Texas (The Oakridge School / Link Year Prep [Mo.])
Chance Puryear, F, 6-7, 190, Dallas, Texas (Carter)

Mitchell Holmes (F, 6-10, 215) is a power forward at Link Year Prep in Branson, Missouri. He is a three-star signee who is ranked in the top 10 overall in Missouri and top 70 at his position nationally. Before attending Link Academy, the McDonald's All-American nominee scored more than 1,500 points at The Oakridge School in Arlington where he was a two-time team MVP, a team captain, SPC Co-State Champ, most outstanding statistics student and a member of the National Honor Society. He played AAU for ProSkills.

Chance Puryear (F, 6-7, 190) is a shooting forward for Carter High School in Dallas. Last season, he averaged 14 points, nine rebounds and three assists last season as Carter went 31-4 and reached the UIL 4A Regional Finals. He was the district 12-4A Freshman of the Year and Sophomore of the Year as well as a member of the DISD Teen School Board. He is a three-star signee who is ranked as high as No. 12 overall in Texas and 34th nationally at his position. He is part of the Southern Assault AAU program.

I like these additions. Puryear seems like a good fit to come in behind Williamson and assuming both Tyreek Smith and Ambrose-Hylton return for another season, Holmes will hopefully have time to mature and develop into a much needed big man against ACC competition. It remains to be seen if SMU's 2024-25 roster will be competitive against anyone in the ACC
