Do any of you oldtimers remember Shelby Metcalf? He always had some young dude in a maroon tuxedo sitting next to him with a clipboard.

Went to my first B-ball game and Phelps just doesn’t do it for me. Def really surprised me. I think we will surprise this year but Phelps has to re-emerge. Also what in the hell is going
On with Foster. This is a 4* kid. Is he in the doghouse or what. I would
Have thought he would have played 20+ min this year

Not yet ready to compete with Top 25 caliber teams...even on our home court. Let's see if this team continues to improve in Ft Myers against good competition

Saw part of the game. This team is so different from the Larry Brown era - didn’t seem to show any passion. Long way to go. I personally don’t see this HC as one who can make SMU successful in the ACC. A HC has to connect with the fan base and the university. I don’t see it.

I agree. I watched a little of the game and said I wish we’d bring Larry back.

Larry Brown is a tough act to follow. This team is playing tenacious D and that's a trademark of a Rob Lanier team. They just don't have enough talented offensive players to compete against quality teams but they try to make up for that by playing tough D for 40 minutes. Harris looks like he can be a consistent scorer for this team and Phelps is always going to put pressure on a defense as he can penetrate but just doesn't shoot well, same with Williamson. Lanier & Smith really helped last night and our guys hit threes at a better than normal pace but as a team we tried to force the action in the paint too much and the Aggie$ did a good job of denying easy buckets and forced far too many turnovers. Hopefully this team will continue to improve and we will have some enjoyable moments as the season wears on.

Why was the Aggie coach allowed to be on the court most of the game?

Coleman and Radford seemed dominant but A-H, Williamson and Hudson were bangers.
How about Lanier with ten points in 11 minutes? Nice.

Lanier coaches a very different style of play than what we have been used to seeing for several years now. I'm not a huge fan of his style but I say that as a spectator not a basketball analyst. I saw some good things and some bad things last night. The good things were that we are capable of knocking down a few threes and I don't think that our guys ever let up on defense. The bad things were that Phelps either wasn't getting the calls or was making bad choices when he continued to drive against the Aggies big men. The refs really let them play and A&M's size and interchangable bigs were more talented than our guys upfront who were not a factor during much of the game. If we continue to play with intensity we are going to have a winning season. Next week will tell us more but even after playing WVU and whoever, we won't have a real good picture of things until these guys have played together a bit longer and conference play is underway.

Was in attendance,

Great atmosphere and loved our defense, Rebounding, not so much, we got killed on the offensive glass, Aggies got so many 2nd and 3rd looks. Hard to win like that.

I hate to say it, but the team plays better/more under control when Phelps is not in there. Phelps shot is still lacking, he cant hit a 3, although I guess he believes he can the way he keeps jacking them up. He is not good at the floaters in the lane which needs to be a staple of any slashing player, ala Nic Moore and Kendric Davis. He can't hit a mid range jumper with any consistency. He drives into the paint out of control and rarely looks to dish. His one big positive is his long wing span on defense and the ability to get steals. When he is not in the lineup, the team plays in control and passes around looking for an open shot.

He needs the light to turn on, but after 3 years of the same ol same ol, I don't think it is going to. We should be good enough to finish in the top tier of the AAC, but I see that as our ceiling. We do have some good talent and hopefully we can continue to improve.
